It included elevated terraced walkways wrapping on two sides of the building, and a main visitors\u2019 entrance on the east.<\/p>\n<p class=\"g-text  svelte-i5c8kc\">An enclosed passageway above the east colonnade connected the White House residence to the ballroom on the second floor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"g-text  svelte-i5c8kc\">Though the design proposed by McCrery Architects would have dwarfed the rest of the White House complex, Mr. Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2025\/10\/22\/us\/politics\/east-wing-trump-ballroom.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wanted to go even bigger<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"g-text  svelte-i5c8kc\">Mr. Trump\u2019s vision is to build a ballroom more than twice as large as the one shown here in the proposal by McCrery Architects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"g-text  svelte-i5c8kc\">Mr. Trump has said that the ballroom \u2014 which is expected to cost $300 million \u2014 would not be paid for by taxpayers. He said that he has already raised $350 million from donors, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/10\/23\/us\/politics\/trump-ballroom-donors-list.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">including from major tech and crypto companies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"g-text  svelte-i5c8kc\">Davis R. Ingle, a White House spokesman, said in a statement that Shalom Baranes Associates, which is based in Washington, D.C., would join \u201ca team of experts to carry out President Trump\u2019s vision on building what will be the greatest addition to the White House since the Oval Office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"g-text  svelte-i5c8kc\">A White House official said that McCrery Architects would continue to serve as a \u201cvaluable consultant\u201d on the project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"g-wrapper_meta g-text-align-left svelte-1p67b3d\" style=\"--g-caption-display:inline;--g-caption-margin-bottom:0;\">Demolition of the White House East Wing underway in October.
