WJAX reported<\/a>.<\/p>\nChristopher Barnes remembers seeing Christina and Angelo Theodosiou minutes after the fatal crash.<\/p>\n
“We woke up the lights out here, came outside,” Barnes said. “Matter of fact, she was already loaded into the ambulance. Her husband was out here, and the police were talking to him. He was pacing around. The golf cart was already by the mailbox.”<\/p>\n
Attorney Curry Pajcic is not connected to the case. But he said this kind of accident is more common than many people think.<\/p>\n
“People need to know golf carts are not toys. They’re dangerous, and they can kill people,” Pajcic said.<\/p>\n
Residents have been concerned about teenagers and adult drivers in golf carts zipping through with no speed bumps or stop signs to slow them down.<\/p>\n
“These happen on a weekly if not a daily basis. So, we’re talking hundreds a year across the state. And they’re increasing,” Pajcic said.<\/p>\n
Neighbors say there have been close calls.<\/p>\n
“We kind of imagine it was only a matter of time before someone was in an accident at this intersection,” Barnes said.<\/p>\n
Angelo Theodosiou is now behind bars. He was charged with DUI and refused to take a breath test.<\/p>\n
“You shouldn’t be drinking and driving. It’s still a vehicle and is still dangerous,” said Yariela Farkas, who lives in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n
An incident report says his wife hit her head on the ground when she fell out of the golf cart.<\/p>\n
It is a tragic reminder of the deadly dangers of these open-air vehicles, when mixed with risky behavior.<\/p>\n
“Don’t drink and drive, wear a seatbelt, have your headlights on, use blinkers, stay in your lane,” Pajcic said.<\/p>\n
