PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 The Arizona Humane Society is expanding veterinary services in Phoenix later this month.<\/p>\n
Starting Thursday, Dec. 11, the Humane Society\u2019s Papago Park campus<\/a> at 55th Street and Van Buren Street will offer after-hours urgent care for pets.<\/p>\n The Humane Society says the after-hours care is for nonemergency but time-sensitive medical needs and is available only by walk-in.<\/p>\n \u201cAs Arizona continues to experience a veterinarian shortage, which has led to longer waits for pet owners seeking medical care, we\u2019re excited to offer a convenient option to bridge the gap,\u201d said Dr. Melissa Thompson, Arizona Humane Society vice president<\/a> of animal welfare and medical services. \u201cOur goal is to provide trusted pet care when our community needs it most, often after they get home from work or on weekends. Our services focus on conditions and ailments that cannot wait for a regular appointment with a veterinarian, including vomiting, ear infections, urinary tract infections, minor wounds and other non-life-threatening, time-sensitive situations.\u201d<\/p>\n This new option builds on services the Arizona Humane Society already offers, including two veterinary clinics and mobile and online veterinary care.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cPets and their owners deserve timely veterinary care,\u201d Dr. Thompson said. \u201cThe sooner a pet is seen, the better its chances of healing.
