Journe<\/a> FFC Prototype \u2014 which he also co-designed \u2014 was among seven watches offered at Phillips\u2019 New York auction. The wristwatch sold to an anonymous phone bidder after 11 minutes of bidding, according to a press release. The sale marks the highest price achieved for a timepiece at auction in the U.S. since Phillips\u2019 sale of Paul Newman\u2019s Rolex \u201cPaul Newman\u201d Daytona in 2017.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWe were thrilled by the result of Francis Ford Coppola\u2019s F.P.Journe FFC Prototype. The importance of this watch, which represents the ultimate creative collaboration between two of the greatest minds in cinematic and horological history, cannot be overstated,\u201d Paul Boutros,\u00a0deputy chairman and head of watches, Americas at Phillips,\u201d said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. \u201cWe had interest from across the globe in the lead-up to the sale, and it was wonderful to see the well-deserved world record result in Phillips\u2019 New York saleroom today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe sale also comes after the Oscar winner took a huge financial hit from 2024\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/megalopolis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_megalopolis_1\" data-tag=\"megalopolis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Megalopolis<\/a>, which grossed only $14.4 million worldwide, despite costing <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/francis-ford-coppola-megalopolis-120-million-1235102085\/\">$120 million <\/a>to make. Coppola used his own money to make the feature, which starred Adam Driver, Shia LaBeouf, Aubrey Plaza, Nathalie Emmanuel and Jon Voight. The filmmaker also wore the watch, which was <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lifestyle\/style\/francis-ford-coppola-to-sell-1-million-watch-he-co-designed-1236408574\/\">estimated be worth at least $1 million<\/a>, when\u00a0Megalopolis premiered at Cannes in May 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn March, Coppola revealed he is broke on a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=91LnnqjNUxw\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Tetragrammaton<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=91LnnqjNUxw\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> podcast<\/a> appearance. \u201cI don\u2019t have any money because I invested all the money that I borrowed to make\u00a0Megalopolis,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s basically gone.
