(Photo courtesy of San Diego Unified)<\/p>\n<p>Administrators at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegounified.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Diego Unified School District<\/a> say they\u2019re ready to move forward with plans to build nearly 1,500 units of affordable housing for teachers on five school properties.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal to begin work with three developers is scheduled for a vote at the Dec. 10 meeting of the school board. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are ready to take the next step toward building affordable housing to support our educators,\u201d\u00a0said Superintendent Fabi Bagula.\u00a0\u201cBuilding affordable housing, and the district retaining ownership of the land to collect annual lease revenue, strengthens our schools and the surrounding San Diego neighborhoods.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Officials have selected San Diego-based <a href=\"https:\/\/affirmedhousing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Affirmed Housing<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/bridgehousing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bridge Housing<\/a> along with Culver City-based <a href=\"https:\/\/decro.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Decro Corp.<\/a> to develop the properties.<\/p>\n<p>The five sites are:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Eugene Brucker Education Center<\/strong>, 4100 Normal Street  \u2014 943 units<\/li>\n<li><strong>Revere Center<\/strong>, 6735 Gifford Way \u2014 220 units<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fremont\/Ballard Center<\/strong>, 2375 Congress Street \u2014 140 units<\/li>\n<li><strong>Instructional Media Center<\/strong>, 2441 Cardinal Lane \u2014 107 units<\/li>\n<li><strong>2101 Commercial Street<\/strong> \u2014 87 units<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No district funds will be spent, and officials anticipate receiving $504 million in lease revenue over 99 years.<\/p>\n<p>Other benefits include construction of two daycare centers and improvements to adjacent school properties.<\/p>\n<p>In March, the school board voted to allow district staff to develop and request proposals to develop the five properties.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The district is seeking to create affordable housing for 10% of its workforce over the next decade.<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"School board members with a rendering of workforce housing at a press conference in March.
