The Townsville to Mount Isa rail line remains closed after a train carrying mineral products derailed on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
One locomotive was on its side and another two left the track but remained upright, Queensland Rail (QR) said.<\/p>\n
The derailment happened at Warrigal between the towns of Pentland and Torrens Creek about 1pm on Friday.<\/p>\n
QR head of regional Scott Cornish said freight and passenger services had stopped over the weekend, with further track assessments to be done.<\/p>\n
“Emergency services arrived onsite soon after. Thankfully no injuries were reported,” Mr Cornish said.<\/p>\n
The service, operated by Qube Holdings, was carrying zinc and copper from Mount Isa.<\/p>\n
One wagon was also derailed but remained upright.<\/p>\n
State Emergency Service volunteers were called in case of a major fuel spill, however this was not an issue, police said.<\/p>\n
Bus service running<\/p>\n
Mr Cornish said the weekend passenger services on the Inlander were replaced by a bus.<\/p>\n
“Queensland Rail will work with the third-party operator to confirm a recovery plan once inspections are completed,” he said.<\/p>\n
In a statement Qube Holdings said it was fortunate the train crew was uninjured.<\/p>\n
