{"id":430260,"date":"2025-12-07T04:36:17","date_gmt":"2025-12-07T04:36:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/430260\/"},"modified":"2025-12-07T04:36:17","modified_gmt":"2025-12-07T04:36:17","slug":"black-chicagoans-express-solidarity-with-immigrants-amid-federal-raids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/430260\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Chicagoans express solidarity with immigrants amid federal raids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of Chicago\u2019s Black community stressed the importance of supporting immigrants\u2019 rights and the city\u2019s Latino residents even as President Donald Trump\u2019s administration has scaled back its deportation campaign across the city.<\/p>\n<p>A coalition of Black Chicagoans presented a solidarity statement with more than 130 signatures during an event Saturday afternoon at Carnitas Uruapan in Little Village.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe stand as allies to others and defenders of ourselves. We recognize this juncture, like others in the past, to affirm the interlocking nature of struggle \u2014 those waged by our brothers and sisters in Pilsen, Little Village, South Shore, Rogers Park, Broadview, and detention centers across the county, state and nation,\u201d the statement reads. \u201cThe only pathway to collective freedom is to stand in solidarity with one another.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Immigration enforcement efforts have eased since a majority of immigration agents, including U.S. Border Patrol Cmdr. Gregory Bovino, left Chicago last month. DHS also recently closed its command center at Naval Station Great Lakes. And immigration agents were seen making arrests Friday in the western suburbs.<\/p>\n<p>Several speakers Saturday referenced the Sept. 30 immigration raid at an apartment building in South Shore, a predominantly Black neighborhood. A Cook County judge has ordered tenants there to vacate the building, where <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wbez.org\/public-safety\/2025\/10\/10\/chicago-immigration-raid-south-shore-apartment-donald-trump-ice?subscription=true\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">living conditions have deteriorated<\/a>, by Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Julia Bradley, with the Black Youth Project 100, emphasized the need for all communities to support each other and work together to combat Trump administration deportation efforts. Court records have shown that 16 of the 614 people arrested during the so-called \u201cOperation Midway Blitz\u201d immigration enforcement had criminal records.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand that whether there\u2019s an ICE raid happening on the West Side of Chicago or the South Side of Chicago \u2026 that they are all a part of the system that continues to historically and intentionally perpetuate violence in our community,\u201d Bradley said.<\/p>\n<p>Linda Murray, a physician and former president of the National Public Health Association, said the current pushback against the Trump administration is another point in Chicago\u2019s long history of resistance.
