The New York Times <\/p>\n<p class=\"g-text svelte-urmhfi\">A major, 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck near the Alaska-Canada border on Saturday, according to the United States Geological Survey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"g-text svelte-urmhfi\">The temblor happened at 11:41 a.m. Alaska time about 56 miles north of Yakutat, Alaska, data from the agency shows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"g-text svelte-urmhfi\">U.S.G.S. data earlier reported that the magnitude was 6.7.<\/p>\n<p class=\"g-text svelte-urmhfi\">As seismologists review available data, they may revise the earthquake\u2019s reported magnitude. Additional information collected about the earthquake may also prompt U.S.G.S. scientists to update the shake-severity map.<\/p>\n<p>       Aftershocks in the region <\/p>\n<p class=\"g-text svelte-urmhfi\">An aftershock is usually a smaller earthquake that follows a larger one in the same general area. Aftershocks are typically minor adjustments along the portion of a fault that slipped at the time of the initial earthquake.<\/p>\n<p>Quakes and aftershocks within 100 miles <\/p>\n<p class=\"g-text svelte-urmhfi\">Aftershocks can occur days, weeks or even years after the first earthquake.
