HOMER, N.Y. \u2014 If you\u2019re looking for a slice of summer serenity\u2014surrounded by blooming lavender, local art, and handmade goods\u2014one Central New York farm is turning tradition into an experience.<\/p>\n
Farmstead 1868 is welcoming guests to its annual \u201cPurple Paradise\u201d celebration, an immersive event that features hands-on classes, demonstrations, and more than 20 artisan vendors all set during peak lavender season.<\/p>\n
The farm, located in Homer, is run by Monica Cody and her family. She says what\u2019s now a bustling summer tradition started as a pandemic pivot.<\/p>\n
\u201cFarmstead 1868 is my COVID story,\u201d said Cody. \u201cWe started 1868 with hops and horses\u2014my husband\u2019s farm goes back that far. Before prohibition, a fungus killed the New York hop industry, and it was one of the largest producers at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cody began crafting cheese, yogurt, soaps, and lotions using their cows\u2019 milk and started planting lavender to help her family decompress. What began as a calming activity soon blossomed into a full-fledged farm experience, with more than 4,000 lavender plants in the ground.<\/p>\n
Cody says the event is about more than just beauty. It\u2019s a chance for families to create traditions, support local makers, and reconnect with agriculture.<\/p>\n
