(Courtesy city of Georgetown)<\/p>\n<p>Water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption to ensure the destruction of harmful bacteria and microbes, per the release. Water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Residents can boil water prior to washing hands, brushing teeth, drinking and more, per the release. Children, seniors and people with weakened immune systems are more vulnerable to harmful bacteria.<\/p>\n<p><b>The backstory<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Williamson County Judge Steven Snell declared a local state of disaster in response to rising flood waters the morning of July 5, Community Impact <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/georgetown\/weather\/2025\/07\/05\/evacuations-underway-as-san-gabriel-river-floods-in-georgetown-liberty-hill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/live\/?ref=watch_permalink&amp;v=2566168247066041&amp;rdid=Ue7XFUYzv3cWaHFh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">July 5 news conference<\/a>, Gov. Greg Abbott expanded his <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/uploads\/files\/press\/DISASTER_Hill_Country_flood_IMAGE_07-04-2025_2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous disaster declaration<\/a> issued the evening of July 4 to include Williamson, Travis, Bexar, Caldwell, Burnet and Guadalupe counties. Abbott also signed a request for a federal disaster declaration to receive \u201cimmediate and ongoing help\u201d from the federal government, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to add counties, as needed, as conditions either worsen or improve in counties across the state of Texas,\u201d Abbott said at the conference. \u201cWe will ensure that every asset and resource the state has is going to be made available to every county that\u2019s the subject of this disaster declaration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>County and city officials recommended for some residents near parts of Georgetown and Liberty Hill to <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/georgetown\/weather\/2025\/07\/05\/evacuations-underway-as-san-gabriel-river-floods-in-georgetown-liberty-hill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">evacuate July 5<\/a> as the San Gabriel River water levels continued to rise. The county is under a flood watch until 10 p.m. July 5, and officials are not recommending evacuated people return until daylight July 6.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s next? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Public water system officials will notify water customers when water is safe to drink or consume and the boiling process is no longer necessary, per the release.<\/p>\n<p>Residents experiencing a water outage not already shown on the <a href=\"https:\/\/georgetowntx.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/View\/index.html?appid=40207cb812304718abeaf26ebf0c1ac4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">city\u2019s water outage map<\/a> may call 512-930-3640 and press 1. The system will recognize a customer\u2019s number if it\u2019s tied to the water utility account, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>Updates on Georgetown water outages and flood conditions will be posted on the city&#8217;s website, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgetowntexas.gov\/newslist.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.
