KISS<\/strong> bassist\/vocalist Gene Simmons<\/strong> has blamed the recent death of his former bandmate Ace Frehley<\/strong> on the latter\u2019s \u201cbad decisions\u201d. Speaking to The New York Post<\/a>, Simmons<\/strong> was characteristically frank when assessing the fall that ultimately claimed the 74-year-old Frehley<\/strong>\u2018s life.<\/p>\n

Frehley<\/strong> was left hospitalized with blunt force injuries to the head after suffering a late September 2025 fall in the studio. While emergency surgery was conducted, the injuries proved to be too great to overcome<\/a>, leaving his family to make the difficult decision to take him off life support this past October. With a toxicology report still pending, the Morris County Medical Examiner ruled Frehley<\/strong>\u2018s death was ruled as accidental.<\/p>\n

Simmons<\/strong>\u2018 recent comments however seem to imply that other factors may have influenced Frehley<\/strong>\u2018s passing. He told the aforementioned publication:<\/p>\n

\u201cHe refused [advice] from people that cared about him \u2014 including yours truly \u2014 to try to change his lifestyle. In and out of bad decisions. Falling down the stairs \u2014 I\u2019m not a doctor \u2014 doesn\u2019t kill you. There may have been other issues, and it breaks my heart. The saddest thing \u2014 you reap what you shall sow, unfortunately. It breaks my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He went on to speak of Frehley<\/strong>\u2018s funeral as well, offering:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt breaks my heart. Peter Criss<\/strong>, our founding drummer, Paul<\/strong> [Stanley<\/strong>] and myself went to the funeral, open casket. It was just heartbreaking. Saddest of all perhaps is that Ace<\/strong> just couldn\u2019t stay alive long enough to sit there proudly at the Kennedy Center and listen to \u2013 I can\u2019t even tell you who\u2019s going to come out \u2026 really impressive people, just to say how much KISS<\/strong> meant to them. What can you say \u2013 sad.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Last night (December 06th) saw Simmons<\/strong> and his KISS<\/strong> bandmates in Paul Stanley<\/strong> & Peter Criss<\/strong> presented with the Kennedy Center Honors by U.S. President Donald J. Trump<\/strong>. Frehley<\/strong> was posthumously presented the honor with his daughter Monique being in attendance to receive the honor of his behalf<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Upon the initial passing of Frehley<\/strong>, Simmons<\/strong> and Stanley<\/strong> said in a joint statement:<\/p>\n

We are devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley<\/strong>. He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history. He is and will always be a part of KISS<\/strong>\u2019s legacy.
