{"id":432077,"date":"2025-12-08T00:10:17","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T00:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/432077\/"},"modified":"2025-12-08T00:10:17","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T00:10:17","slug":"francesca-scorsese-on-working-with-dad-martin-scorsese-on-saints","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/432077\/","title":{"rendered":"Francesca Scorsese on Working with Dad Martin Scorsese on Saints"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThere was one thing <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/francesca-scorsese\/\" id=\"auto-tag_francesca-scorsese\" data-tag=\"francesca-scorsese\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Francesca Scorsese<\/a> wasn\u2019t comfortable doing when she directed an episode for her father\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/fox-nation\/\" id=\"auto-tag_fox-nation\" data-tag=\"fox-nation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox Nation<\/a> series \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/martin-scorsese\/\" id=\"auto-tag_martin-scorsese\" data-tag=\"martin-scorsese\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Martin Scorsese<\/a> Presents: The <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/saints\/\" id=\"auto-tag_saints\" data-tag=\"saints\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saints<\/a>\u201d about Saint Carlo Acutis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAcutis, an Italian teen known for being a devout Catholic and promoting the religion on the internet, was only 15 when he died of leukemia in 2006. Known as the first millennial saint, he was canonized in 2015.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFrancesca was given the option of filming the body of Acutis, which is entombed and on display in a glass coffin in Assisi, Italy. \u201cIt was slightly disturbing because it\u2019s a young boy. They put this silicone mask over him, and he looks perfectly preserved,\u201d she tells me. \u201cIt looks like a young boy sleeping, like one of my friends, and he\u2019s in a tracksuit and sneakers. \u2026 There was a bit of a point of contention on whether or not we were going to film his body. After I left his body, I was like, \u2018No, we can\u2019t. It just feels so wrong.\u2019 So we used a very slight amount of stock footage for that as not to disrupt the peace in there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-variety-2020\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Saint-Carlo-Acutis-The-Saints.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"683\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCourtesy of Fox Nation<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFrancesca\u2019s childhood was a religious one. \u201cI had my communion, I had my confirmation. I would go to the classes to get through all that,\u201d she remembers. \u201cI\u2019d go to church. I\u2019d pray every night. My dad would read me the Bible like a bedtime story sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut Francesca\u2019s faith began to wane in her teenage years, especially as she witnessed her mother Helen\u2019s battle with Parkinson\u2019s disease. \u201cI often found myself asking, \u2018Why does God do bad things to good people, or let bad things happen to good people?\u2019\u201d she says. \u201cMy mom was a big point of struggle for me as I got older and that got a lot worse. As it started to become a very prevalent thing in my life, I think that\u2019s a big part of why I sort of drifted away from my beliefs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFrancesca\u2019s directing credits include three shorts. She\u2019s also an actress, best known for her work in Luca Guadagnino\u2019s HBO series \u201cWe Are Who We Are,\u201d and has served as a creative director on various commercial projects. About two years ago, she and her father became viral hits for their joint videos Francesca posted on TikTok. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile filming \u201cSaints\u201d episode \u2014 it premieres Sunday, Dec. 7 on Fox Nation \u2014 she would send dailies to her father, who serves as the series narrator as well as an executive producer. \u201cI would get a call or a text, and he\u2019d be like, \u2018These rushes look great,\u2019\u201d Francesca recalls. \u201cI was never really given any notes until I was in post-production. I mean, everything he said was completely valid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFrancesca acknowledges that she\u2019s a so-called \u201cnepo-baby\u201d: \u201cI got this obviously because my dad was overseeing everything as the executive producer. I\u2019m not going to deny anything. I\u2019m honored to be given an opportunity like this, and I\u2019m going to do my best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFrancesca admits she had \u201csome hesitation\u201d working on a Fox Nation project because of the politics associated with Fox. \u201cBut I know how my dad feels with everything,\u201d she says. \u201cI feel pretty much the same way as he does in terms of politics and everything, and I look up to him, and I really follow in his footsteps a lot of the time. But Fox was the only one that supported this project and that wanted to bring this project to life. I think there\u2019s something to say about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNext up, Francesca will direct \u201cAdults,\u201d a dark comedy short about her mom\u2019s childhood. \u201cMy mom grew up in Paris, and her dad was at the American embassy there,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s a father-daughter story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe Scorseses will spend Christmas Eve at home with family. \u201cWe\u2019ll have dinner and open gifts,\u201d Francesca says. New Year\u2019s Eve will be spent at Martin Scorsese\u2019s office: \u201cWe\u2019ll watch a movie and then watch the fireworks on TV.
