The Dallas Stars<\/a>\u2019 Sunday evening matchup with the Pittsburgh Penguins began on a somber note with the team paying tribute to its former owner, Tom Hicks.<\/p>\n

Hicks, who owned the Stars from 1995-2011, died on Saturday at the age of 79<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tributes from Stars figureheads (as well as the Texas Rangers, which Hicks owned for a significant period as well) have been pouring in Sunday<\/a> leading up to puck drop vs. the Penguins, and the matchup began with a moment of silence for the team\u2019s former owner.<\/p>\n

After the moment of silence, Stars\u2019 legendary color analyst Daryl \u201cRazor\u201d Reaugh offered up a tribute on the Victory+ broadcast. Reaugh, who\u2019s been in the Stars\u2019 broadcast booth since 1996, called Hicks \u201ca titan of D-FW sports.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a loss. What a man,\u201d Reaugh said on Victory+. \u201cAn absolute titan of D-FW sports and the landscape here, the business community. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe loved that era\u2019s Dallas Stars. His boys. He worked to understand the game better; he gave us every tool to win. He and [wife] Cinda threw some epic parties on Beverly. My heartfelt condolences to [Hicks\u2019 family] Cinda, Tommy, Mack, Alex, Robert, William, Catherine. Just a legendary American.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you know what, it\u2019s so appropriate that they would be wearing these jerseys, the \u201899s<\/a>, on this night.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Stars were clad in their alternate jerseys when they hit the ice on Sunday, the sweaters an homage to the Stanley Cup championship the team won under Hicks<\/a> in 1999. <\/p>\n

Mr. Hicks was such a legendary American, Texan and Dallasite<\/p>\n

As owner he loved those Stars players\/teams from the old halcyon 90s and early 2000s, and the feeling was mutual – 100fold<\/p>\n
