{"id":432347,"date":"2025-12-08T02:58:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T02:58:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/432347\/"},"modified":"2025-12-08T02:58:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T02:58:12","slug":"2-philadelphia-catholic-league-high-school-football-teams-win-piaa-state-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/432347\/","title":{"rendered":"2 Philadelphia Catholic League high school football teams win PIAA state championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two Philadelphia Catholic League high school football teams won <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/piaa-football-championship-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">PIAA state championships<\/a> over the weekend, including one that won its first in school history.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Roman Catholic wins first state championship in program history<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/aopathletics.org\/news\/2025\/12\/4\/2025-piaa-football-championship-game.aspx?path=football\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Roman Catholic defeated Bishop McDevitt<\/a> (Harrisburg), 28-6, Friday night in the PIAA Class 5A championship game at Chapman Stadium in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, to secure the program&#8217;s first state title.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cahillites senior quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/247sports.com\/player\/semaj-beals-46136316\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Semaj Beals<\/a>, a three-star University of Akron recruit, had four total touchdowns in the victory. He completed 18-of-26 passes for 231 yards to go along with his four scores.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Roman Catholic got revenge on Bishop McDevitt after last year&#8217;s PIAA Class 5A title game, where the Cahillites lost to the Harrisburg powerhouse in overtime, 34-31.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Cahillites led Bishop McDevitt 21-0 at halftime, and they forced four total turnovers. Junior linebacker Walter Hudson recorded a team-high 11 tackles with an interception, and junior defensive back Chase Hinton had an interception. Seniors Antwan Smith Ray and Julian Enoch each had fumble recoveries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Roman Catholic outscored opponents 180-53 in four PIAA playoff games.<\/p>\n<p>Joey O&#8217;Brien leads La Salle College High School to PIAA Class 6A championship<\/p>\n<p>Roman Catholic wasn&#8217;t the only Philadelphia Catholic League team to win a state title in the 2025 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>La Salle College High School beat Pittsburgh Central Catholic 34-20 Saturday night as senior safety <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MaxPreps\/status\/1997470580212457874\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Joey O&#8217;Brien<\/a> had a monster game. The state title is <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LaSalle_Sports\/status\/1997503716446875683\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">La Salle&#8217;s first since 2009<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/247sports.com\/player\/joey-obrien-46148427\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">O&#8217;Brien, a five-star University of Notre Dame recruit<\/a>, had 10 catches for 98 yards and three interceptions, including one that he returned for a 95-yard touchdown, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/richflanagan33\/status\/1997503265391440368\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to Rich Flanagan of PhillySportsDigest<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Explorers senior quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/247sports.com\/player\/gavin-sidwar-46136167\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gavin Sidwar<\/a>, a three-star University of Missouri recruit, completed 21 of his 28 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns.
