Linebacker Justin Jefferson and cornerback Zabien Brown both exited the game in the third quarter and visited the sideline medical tent.

On Sunday, while discussing Alabama’s College Football Playoff matchup with Oklahoma, head coach Kalen DeBoer offered the latest on Brown and Jefferson on a Zoom call with reporters.

“We haven’t met and got the report, but just going off of last night, I would expect, with the severity, that they’ll both be good to go with the whole week off here and stuff,” DeBoer said.

Jefferson played 30 snaps in the 28-7 loss to the Bulldogs, according to Pro Football Focus. He recorded four tackles before leaving the game. Nikhai Hill-Green replaced Jefferson on the field and finished with 48 snaps. Hill-Green led the Alabama defense with seven tackles.

Brown played 38 snaps, per PFF, and finished the SEC title game with two tackles and a tackle for loss. Domani Jackson led the cornerback position with 62 snaps and started opposite Brown, as true freshman Dijon Lee Jr. was dealing with an injury. Lee still logged 22 snaps.

DeBoer also provided updates on defensive lineman LT Overton, running back Jam Miller and tight end Josh Cuevas. All three starters missed Saturday’s title game due to injuries/illness.

“Jam, I feel, is probably the farthest along, if I really kind of put that kind of in order,” DeBoer said. “I feel really that he’s got a really strong chance of being not just available, but ready to go at a level he can compete in and do some good things for us.

“And Josh will be — he’s on his way. We’ve kind of just got to keep evaluating with him. I’m holding on to some pretty good hope, but we’ll see. He hasn’t seen our training staff yet today, but every day here now, the next four or five days, they all matter. They all matter for all these guys.

“And then we’ll continue to evaluate just where LT’s at. And add Kelby Collins to the mix there, too, with some of their illnesses and stuff like that, that they’re going through. So I’m optimistic on a lot of these guys.”

Alabama will travel to play Oklahoma on Friday, December 19, at 7 p.m. CT (ESPN & ABC).

Not a member, Alabama fans?
