The phenomenon comes as even more frigid temperatures and snowfall hit the area. <\/p>\n<p>A geomagnetic storm watch, a result of a coronal mass ejection, has been issued for Tuesday, according to the NOAA. A CME is an eruption of solar matter and magnetic fields and is projected to enter the Earth\u2019s atmosphere early to midday Tuesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/news\/strong-g3-geomagnetic-storm-watch-valid-09-dec-2025\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">making the aurora visible to many northern states<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To attempt to see the aurora, make sure to have an unobstructed view of the sky, away from city lights, according to NOAA.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A full-halo coronal mass ejection (CME), associated with an M8.1 flare from Region 4299 at 20:39 UTC on 06 December, is expected to impact Earth early to midday on 09 December, potentially causing periods of G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storming. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/L2qCfEWmRW\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/L2qCfEWmRW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (@NWSSWPC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NWSSWPC\/status\/1997527051138724181?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">December 7, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Along with the geomagnetic storm, the Chicago area is <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=LOT&amp;issuedby=LOT&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=CI&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">projected to turn \u201csharply\u201d colder<\/a> for the latter half of the week, per the National Weather Service.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lake effect clouds made for a chilly start to the work week with a high of 26 degrees Monday with a 20 percent chance of snow after midnight.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After the temperature slightly warms up Tuesday and Wednesday, with respective highs of 38 and 37 degrees, a low pressure system will cool things back down Thursday, Friday and Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"575\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Screenshot-2025-12-08-at-3.30.44-PM-1024x575.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-960586\"  \/>Credit: Facebook<\/p>\n<p>Thursday is projected to see a 30 percent chance of snow with a high of 27 degrees. Friday and Saturday will be even colder, with highs of 24 and 13 degrees, respectively, and strong winds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chicago Warming Centers<\/p>\n<p>People who need a safe space to warm up can go to a city warming center, which open when temperatures are at 32 degrees or below. They\u2019re open 9 a.m.-5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The locations:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Englewood Center, 1140 W. 79th St.<\/li>\n<li>North Area Center, 845 W. Wilson Ave.<\/li>\n<li>Garfield Center, 10 S. Kedzie Ave.: This center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to connect people to emergency shelter.<\/li>\n<li>South Chicago Center, 8650 S. Commercial Ave.<\/li>\n<li>King Center, 4314 S. Cottage Grove Ave.<\/li>\n<li>Trina Davila Center, 4312 W. North Ave.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can call 311 to find the warming center nearest to you.
