Councilwoman Jennifer Campbell was absent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I appreciate my council colleagues for the collaborative process in what has been a challenging year and what will likely continue to be,&#8221; LaCava said. &#8220;During the difficult budget in the first half of the (fiscal) year, we showed each other mutual respect.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And I appreciate your tolerance for my love of workshopping and going into the weeds, which can lead to some late meetings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I thank the City Council for placing their trust in me for another year. The past year was difficult, and we have faced our challenges directly and in a collegial, transparent, and constructive manner. We will continue to show up and ensure services are delivered to San Diegans. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/QrvTRuq8mg\">pic.twitter.com\/QrvTRuq8mg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Council President Joe LaCava (@JoeLaCavaD1) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoeLaCavaD1\/status\/1998207002678530443?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">December 9, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>LaCava was first elected to the head of San Diego&#8217;s legislative body in 2024, moving up from the Council President pro Tempore role under then- President Sean Elo-Rivera.<\/p>\n<p>The council president is tasked with placing items on the council&#8217;s agenda, appointing members to committees and leading meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Councilman Stephen Whitburn applauded LaCava&#8217;s even-handedness.
