But as trade with the U.S. weakens, China is diversifying its export markets throughout Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s exports had contracted just over\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/china-trade-tariffs-trump-exports-75f570114f56c5b64209a039ab539ebb\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/china-trade-tariffs-trump-exports-75f570114f56c5b64209a039ab539ebb\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1% in October.<\/a>\u00a0November\u2019s worldwide exports of $330.3 billion exceeded economists\u2019 estimates. Imports totaled $218.6 billion for the month.<\/p>\n<p>The nearly $1.08 trillion trade surplus for the first 11 months of this year is a record high, surpassing the $992 billion surplus for all of 2024, based on official data compiled by FactSet.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-china-united-states-trade-war-05f263e824a3e83fa0cc8158f834493a\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-china-united-states-trade-war-05f263e824a3e83fa0cc8158f834493a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">year-long trade truce<\/a>\u00a0between China and the U.S. was reached at a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in late October in South Korea. The U.S. has lowered its tariffs on China, and China has promised to halt its export controls related to rare earths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s likely that November exports have yet to fully reflect the tariff cut, which should feed through in the coming months,\u201d ING Bank chief economist for Greater China Lynn Song wrote in a report.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s factory activity\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/china-factory-economy-us-trade-c8b0e57bfa20d26447865db4a6fecaa5\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/china-factory-economy-us-trade-c8b0e57bfa20d26447865db4a6fecaa5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">contracted for an eighth straight month<\/a>\u00a0in November, according to an official survey, and economists said it was still early to determine whether there was a real rebound in external demand following the U.S.-China trade truce.<\/p>\n<p>With exports still going strong, economists generally expect China to meet its target of around 5% annual growth for this year.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese leaders outlined a focus on advanced manufacturing for the next five years following a\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/china-communist-economy-jinping-5year-2f614bd6bd80a1668a99ed01dcfb9158\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/china-communist-economy-jinping-5year-2f614bd6bd80a1668a99ed01dcfb9158\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">high-level meeting<\/a>\u00a0in October. It also highlighted the need to boost domestic consumption, which could help address trade imbalances.<\/p>\n<p>A meeting of the ruling Chinese Communist Party\u2019s decision-making Politburo was held on Monday, led by Xi, to discuss economic plans for 2026, according to the Xinhua state news agency.
