{"id":436358,"date":"2025-12-09T21:34:14","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T21:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/436358\/"},"modified":"2025-12-09T21:34:14","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T21:34:14","slug":"arsenal-add-gabriel-jesus-to-champions-league-squad-after-max-dowman-injury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/436358\/","title":{"rendered":"Arsenal add Gabriel Jesus to Champions League squad after Max Dowman injury"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Arsenal have brought Gabriel Jesus into their Champions League squad ahead of Wednesday\u2019s game against Club Bruges.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old was initially not part of Arsenal\u2019s squad for the league phase of the competition, registered in September, but he has been brought in for Max Dowman.<\/p>\n<p>Dowman, 15, became the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6630822\/2025\/11\/04\/max-dowman-champions-league-arsenal-youngest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">youngest-ever player to appear in a Champions League match<\/a> after coming on as a substitute in Arsenal\u2019s 3-0 victory over Slavia Prague on November 4.<\/p>\n<p>Arsenal\u2019s confirmed that the teenager sustained an ankle injury while playing for the Under-21s on Saturday.\u00a0 Jesus will now be eligible to play in Arsenal\u2019s match in Belgium on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Tuesday, manager Mikel Arteta said: \u201cWe expected him (Jesus) to be out until December, but Gabby kept pushing everyone and saying, \u2018I\u2019m going to be earlier, earlier, earlier\u2019 \u2013 and he\u2019s done it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about Dowman, he said: \u201cWe did some scans, and he\u2019s going to be out for weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Welcome back, Gabby \ud83d\udc4f<\/p>\n<p>Gabriel Jesus is now registered to take part in UEFA Champions League action \u2728<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Arsenal (@Arsenal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Arsenal\/status\/1998413326158823509?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">December 9, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Newly amended UEFA rules state that outfield players can be replaced in the European competition\u2019s squads in the event of a \u201clong-term\u201d injury with an absence of at least 60 days.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus, who has been sidelined since January after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his left knee. The Brazilian returned to training in November and was an unused substitute against Chelsea and Brentford.<\/p>\n<p>Mikel Arteta <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6844951\/2025\/11\/28\/gabriel-jesus-fitness-return-arteta-arsenal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed on November 28<\/a> that Jesus had featured in a behind-closed-doors match to help the forward get up to speed.<\/p>\n<p>The Arsenal manager added: \u201cWe have to see (if Jesus can feature during the busy festive period). He\u2019s been out 11 months and you need that progression to see how his body and that knee reacts, and what else he needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the players that are available as well, it has to make sense with the balance of the squad. The good thing is it\u2019s very close at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s what we see every single day and how he reacts to the changes he had in load. Then he needs to get into the chemistry of the team, understanding the things in match-time which is very different to anything he tried to do in training.
