Now that we’re getting closer to the offseason and staffs continue to shuffle, will we see Coach O working again?

That remains to be seen, the former LSU coach, who won a national title in 2019 mind you, is open to being a defensive line coach. He’s said as much throughout the fall.

But if he doesn’t get a job, he’s content with his career despite moving back to Baton Rouge from Miami. LSU’s buyout is big enough, just ask Brian Kelly!

“I moved out of Miami. I moved back to Baton Rouge, in case we do get a job,” Orgeron said on Bussin’ With The Boys. “I talked with the athletic director at Arkansas one time. That was it, but I have not had a job offer that would fit to what I want to do now. I don’t need to be a head coach. I could be a defensive line coach, be a recruiting coordinator, but if it fits what I want to get done in this part of my life, I will take it. If it doesn’t, LSU was good to me, I don’t have to take it.”

Orgeron was asked by Will Compton and Taylor Lewan his ideal program. They wanted him to name names, and he eventually did. Coach O kept it to teams that have the recruiting base and resources to win a national title, because he wants to compete and contribute to the culture.

“I would go be a defensive line coach at a major program,” Orgeron said. “A team that competes, I won’t say a school, a team that competes for the national championship, a team that has the power and the recruiting base to compete at a national championship. USC is one of them schools. LSU is one of the schools. I respect Alabama. This boy ain’t never gonna coach at Alabama … Penn State, Ohio State, Florida, Nebraska, you know? I threw (Will) a little bone (with that Nebraska pick) …

“Really, a big school with a coach that wouldn’t be intimidated by me being on staff. Now, I don’t want to do that. I want the coach to have enough gumption and know that I’m there to help him. And to be able to recruit at a high level and have the in and out money and compete and win championships.”

Then it was brought up that Tennessee shook up their defensive staff. Orgeron didn’t connect dots with the Vols, but acknowledged he loved his sole year in Knoxville.

“I love Tennessee. I did,” Orgeron said. “I really did. I coached there for one year. It’s a football school. I love it.”

As it stands now, Orgeron was the head coach at Ole Miss, USC and LSU in his career, among many stops dating back to 1984. The 64-year-old is 67-47 overall and 51-20 at LSU, including a 15-0 mark in 2019 as the College Football Playoff national champions.

Ed Orgeron has discussed his coaching future before and his desire to return to teh sidelines.
