Funeral in Houston stopped mid-service as owners face identity-theft accusations<\/b><\/a><\/p>\nInvestigators say Green is now accused of orchestrating a theft of nearly $2 million, unlawfully operating a funeral home, and forgery. <\/p>\n
The property that was being used as the funeral home had been rented to Green\u2019s friend, Tricia Henderson, who was reportedly the only person authorized to access the location.<\/p>\n
The new information stems from a Nov. 7 charge against Green related to filing a false lien against the property owner. <\/p>\n
Court records indicate that Green \u201csuccessfully obtained the estate\u201d of a recently deceased man by pretending to be his wife. Investigators also allege that Green misled the family, pretending to provide funeral services while secretly acquiring the man\u2019s property, bank accounts, and vehicles through fraudulent probate documents.<\/p>\n
Investigators say the will and testament listed Green as the man\u2019s surviving spouse, despite there being no record of Green having any connection to him prior to his death in June 2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no record of Unique Mica Green being connected with the deceased until after his death,\u201d police wrote in the warrant.<\/p>\n
According to the warrant, the man\u2019s body was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition, with his skin described as \u201cleather-like\u201d and no signs of trauma or foul play.<\/p>\n
The man\u2019s family, who had no knowledge of a spouse, children, or medical conditions, said they were contacted by someone claiming to be \u2018Mica Battle\u2019 \u2014 an alias investigators believe was used by Green \u2014 and were instructed to pay for funeral services via Zelle.<\/p>\n
The warrant details Green\u2019s use of fake identities and sham businesses, including a \u201cWingate Funeral Home\u201d that does not exist. Authorities reportedly identified Green\u2019s voice when calling the business. <\/p>\n
The \u201cWingate\u201d email address used to communicate with the family was also created at the start of the alleged con and later deleted during the investigation, records showed.<\/p>\n
Investigators went to the address of the deceased man\u2019s home on Nov. 13. There, they said they found Green with a group of roughly 15 men, some wearing ski masks. There were also massive rental dumpsters on site, and the men were throwing away large amounts of property.<\/p>\n
The man\u2019s family reportedly planned to fly to Houston earlier in the year, but investigators say Green instructed them not to, citing hazardous conditions in the home and promising a cleanup crew, while continuing to receive payments totaling over $6,000.<\/p>\n
Bank records show multiple transfers from the man\u2019s accounts to Green\u2019s totaling more than $1.9 million, including a $1.3 million wire transfer executed five days after Green gained control of the estate.<\/p>\n
An investigator with the Texas Funeral Commission told HPD they are aware of Green and have several active cases affiliated with his accusations. The commission also said anyone working with Green to handle the deceased for \u2018cremation\u2019 is committing a serious offense.<\/p>\n
Green was released on bond after being arrested on Nov. 7 on a misdemeanor forgery charge tied to the fake lien and is not currently in custody.<\/p>\n

During the search, HPD officials seized computers, phones, documents, boxes of human remains, and cremation boxes from the property, records show.<\/p>\n
A dozen cremains were recovered and placed in police custody, though investigators have not confirmed the whereabouts of the remains of the deceased man involved in the alleged scam.<\/p>\n
Green was detained during the search, and authorities are reviewing potential new charges related to the expanded investigation.<\/p>\n
