The Jacksonville Jaguars’ defense is again standing out in this crucial area in recent weeks.<\/p>\n
Over the Jacksonville Jaguars’<\/a> last two games, the defense has once again been generating takeaways at a high rate.<\/p>\n Against Tennessee in Week 13, the Jaguars<\/a>‘ defense came away with two turnovers. This past week against Indianapolis, Jacksonville forced three more.<\/p>\n To state the obvious, turnovers are great. They can take points off the board for the opponent, limit possessions, and can set the defense’s own offense up with good field position.<\/p>\n However, to truly maximize what takeaways can provide, complementary football is required. Or another way to put it, the offense then needs to turn those takeaways from the defense into points — which the Jaguars have also done.<\/p>\n Of those five takeaways over the last two games, the Jaguars’ offense has produced three touchdowns.<\/p>\n “Our defense did an unbelievable job again creating turnovers, and we were able to take advantage of them,”\u00a0said Liam Coen, via Jaguars.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n After the Jaguars recorded a whopping 14 turnovers in their first five games, they mustered only four over the next six games. As ESPN’s Bill Barnwell<\/a> noted, during that six-game stretch, the Jaguars were 3-3 and dropped from sixth in EPA (expected points added) per play to 19th.<\/p>\n That pendulum has since swung back in favor of the Jaguars’ defense in recent weeks.<\/p>\n Fourth down stops don’t count the same as an interception or a fumble recovery, but in a way, those are turnovers as well, and this is another area where the Jaguars’ defense has been quite good.<\/p>\n The Titans and Colts<\/a> were a combined 1-for-5<\/a> on fourth down attempts against Jacksonville.<\/p>\n Statistically speaking, the team that wins the turnover battle often wins the game, and the Jaguars’ defense is finding ways to give the ball back to their offense.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Jacksonville Jaguars’ defense is again standing out in this crucial area in recent weeks.
