How it happened<\/p>\n
Indiana came out hot from the perimeter on Tuesday night at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Lamar Wilkerson hit a trio of 3-pointers and Tayton Conerway hit a fourth before the first media timeout to give the Hoosiers a 12-7 lead by the first media timeout. After Kayden Mingo completed a 3-point play to make it 17-12, IU ripped off a 6-0 run to claim a 23-12 lead, forcing Mike Rhoades to take a timeout at the 10:27 mark of the half. The run was extended to 10-0 after two more buckets from Wilkerson, forcing another Penn State timeout with the Hoosiers leading 27-12. <\/p>\n
By the under-eight media timeout, the Hoosiers were on a 20-2 run and led 37-14. At the final media timeout of the first half, IU\u2019s lead was a comfortable 47-18. At halftime, Indiana led 58-26. The Hoosiers shot 7-for-15 on 3s in the first half, 13-for-15 at the rim and scored 1.51 points per possession. Indiana scored 20 points off of Penn State\u2019s 11 turnovers.<\/p>\n
The offensive onslaught continued into the second half. Wilkerson hit all four of his 3-point attempts by the first media timeout and the lead ballooned to 44 points at 78-34. The Hoosiers stretched the lead to 47 points at 81-34 as Wilkerson tied the single-game record for made 3-pointers by an IU player at the 14:26 mark of the second half. By the under-eight media timeout, Indiana\u2019s lead was 94-50 after a Reed Bailey bucket. After the break, Bailey added a free throw to make it 95-50. <\/p>\n
Wilkerson\u2019s 10th 3-pointer of the game, which came with 5:31 to play, set a program record. He left with 44 points, setting a single-game scoring record in Assembly Hall as IU cruised to its eighth win of the season.<\/p>\n
Standout performer<\/p>\n
Wilkerson finished with 44 points, surpassing the previous record for points in a game by an IU player in Assembly Hall set by Trayce Jackson-Davis in 2021, which was 43 against Marshall. <\/p>\n
He was 16-for-22 from the field, including 10-for-15 on 3s and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. Wilkerson also had four rebounds, four assists and three steals in 24 minutes.<\/p>\n
Statistics that stand out<\/p>\n
Indiana shot 17-for-31 on 3-pointers, good for 54.8 percent. The Hoosiers scored 1.54 points per possession in the blowout win.<\/p>\n
