A new mother is burned out of her mobile home in Rainbow, and everything in it \u2014 including the baby shower gifts \u2014 are destroyed.<\/p>\n
The fire happened in her home last week while she was inside feeding her daughter.<\/p>\n
“Right here, I had her crib. It was in the middle,” Violeta Nieto said.<\/p>\n
Nieto had lived in the home since she was 14 years old. Now, it’s burnt to the frame. Everything in it was incinerated.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy tablet, my phone and her clothes \u2014 everything was in there. All of our stuff is in there,” Nieto said. “Paperwork from the hospital. Her bag.”<\/p>\n
The fire started last Thursday afternoon. The night before, the power went out. When the landlord turned it back on, sparks began to fly.<\/p>\n
The power comes from the main house. It is connected to the mobile home through a small junction box just underneath the side door, which is where Nieto saw the sparks. She says she\u2019s had some power outages in the past, but nothing like this.<\/p>\n
In a matter of minutes, between three and five, Nieto says the entire home was engulfed in flames. She was nursing Tahlia at the time but managed to escape.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith my sweater, I wrapped her. That\u2019s all I grabbed was her,” Nieto said.<\/p>\n
Firefighters managed to extinguish it before the fire spread to the livestock pens on property or any other structures. <\/p>\n
\u00a0Nieto’s greatest concern was the health of her daughter.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s what I was more worried about, her breathing the smoke,\u201d Nieto said.<\/p>\n
Tahlia was born 7 pounds, 11 ounces, healthy and happy. Nieto is looking past the losses and grateful for this most important gift.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s safe, and I get to carry her in my arms. It gives me hope everything will get better,” Nieto said.<\/p>\n
