{"id":438441,"date":"2025-12-10T19:06:32","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T19:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/438441\/"},"modified":"2025-12-10T19:06:32","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T19:06:32","slug":"are-blueberries-good-for-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/438441\/","title":{"rendered":"Are blueberries good for you?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;right:0;bottom:0;width:100%;height:100%;z-index:2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/2f027834-f91e-489f-9fad-d137bbd61206-PROBLEM_SOLVED_WASHING_PRODUCE_DESK_THUMB.jpg\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vidplayicon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gannett-cdn.com\/appservices\/universal-web\/universal\/icons\/icon-play-alt-white.svg\" alt=\"play\" style=\"height:40px;margin:auto 18px auto 27px;width:40px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Coronavirus: Steps to take while washing produce<\/p>\n<p>Take these steps before and after you wash your produce to make sure your fruits and vegetables are clean.<\/p>\n<p>ProblemSolved, USA TODAY<\/p>\n<p>Small but mighty, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2024\/11\/21\/are-blueberries-good-for-you\/76234227007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blueberries<\/a> pack a powerful punch of nutrition in a small package.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBlueberries are incredibly healthy and an excellent addition to anyone&#8217;s diet,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/thesassydietitian.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Laura Ligos<\/a>, a registered dietitian nutritionist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are rich in antioxidants, vitamin C and other nutrients that can help support brain health, heart health and healthy blood sugar levels,&#8221; she adds.<\/p>\n<p>One hundred grams of the fruit (about 1 cup to 1.5 cups, depending on their size), for example, contains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2022\/02\/17\/biotin-covid-19-rapid-test-rumors-hair-growth-and-what-know\/6827256001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">biotin<\/a>, fiber, vitamin K, manganese, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2023\/05\/10\/what-does-calcium-do-for-the-body-foods-eat-get-enough\/70188790007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">calcium<\/a> and more than 8 milligrams of vitamin C, plus lesser amounts of protein, iron, phosphorus and potassium, per the <a href=\"https:\/\/fdc.nal.usda.gov\/food-details\/2346411\/nutrients\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S. Department of Agriculture<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Carolyn Newberry, an attending physician and nutrition scientist at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City, previously told USA TODAY that the fruit&#8217;s manganese content helps in &#8220;keeping bones strong,&#8221; and their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2023\/03\/18\/what-does-vitamin-c-do-benefits-foods-eat-how-much-per-day\/11491055002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vitamin C<\/a> content is a powerful antioxidant &#8220;that promotes wound healing and reduces risk of illness.&#8221; She also noted that because blueberries are rich in vitamin K, &#8220;they can help clot blood in case of injury.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anthocyanins are another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2023\/05\/11\/what-are-antioxidants-food-free-radicals-oxidative-stress-explained\/70196999007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">antioxidant<\/a> that blueberries are high in and are known for benefits such as improved cognitive function and motor skills.\u00a0Blueberries are also high in fiber, about 4 grams per cup, which can slow digestion, &#8220;making them a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2024\/03\/12\/what-is-normal-blood-sugar\/72848154007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blood sugar-friendly<\/a> food,&#8221; Caroline Susie, a registered dietitian, previously told USA TODAY.<\/p>\n<p>Their high-fiber content also means that blueberries are filling, which, combined with their <a href=\"https:\/\/fdc.nal.usda.gov\/food-details\/2346411\/nutrients\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">low number of calories<\/a> (just 64 calories per 100 grams), means the fruit can help with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2024\/01\/03\/what-is-the-fastest-way-to-lose-weight\/71925908007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">healthy weight management<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">Did you see? <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2024\/03\/12\/what-is-normal-blood-sugar\/72848154007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">How to test your blood sugar levels and why it&#8217;s critical for some people<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Is it OK to eat blueberries every day?<\/p>\n<p>For most people, it is absolutely OK to eat blueberries every day, Ligos says. &#8220;My kids certainly would if we could keep them in the house.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some people, however, especially those with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2024\/02\/13\/why-does-my-stomach-hurt-after-i-eat\/72522331007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sensitive stomachs<\/a> or digestive conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, may find that overconsumption of blueberries will give them stomach pain, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2014\/01\/11\/laxative-warning-constipation\/4412697\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">constipation<\/a> or cramping.<\/p>\n<p>Since blueberries have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2023\/03\/27\/what-vitamin-k-benefits-body-who-needs-it-k-2-explained\/11548498002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vitamin K<\/a> in them, &#8220;people on certain types of blood-thinning medications may want to talk to their doctor about how much is safe to consume,&#8221; Newberry cautioned.
