Apple’s latest update to the iPhone operating system includes a useful change to AirDrop file sharing, a prominent tweak to Liquid Glass and more. So when will it actually land? Here’s when to expect it.

Spoiler alert: It could be today!

The update should be joined by macOS Tahoe 26.2, iPadOS 26.2, watchOS 26.2, tvOS 26.2 and visionOS 26.2, probably all at the same time.

iOS 26.2 release date: Could be today

iOS updates bring new features and bug fixes, so it’s no surprise that so many iPhone users are eager to install each new one. They’re checking their watches — here’s exactly when to check yours.

Looking at Apple’s recent track record, software updates of the “.2” variety tend to arrive in the second week of December. iOS 18.2 and iOS 17.2 both landed on December 11.

And there’s another habit to watch, too. On December 3, Apple seeded the iOS 26.2 release candidates to developers and public testers. That traditionally happens a week before the full launch. A second RC arrived on December 8, but that probably didn’t reset the clock.

Considering both those trends, the launch could have happened on Tuesday. But that day came and went with no new version, which now makes Wednesday, December 10, a likely day for the iOS 26.2 release date.

That said, a launch on Thursday, December 11, is also possible. It could even be as late as Monday, December 15 — a full week after the second release candidate went out.

It all depends on when Apple feels confident that the update is ready to go to hundreds of millions of iPhones around the globe.

What time?

Apple passed over the opportunity to introduce iOS 26.2 at the usual 10 a.m. Pacific time on December 10, but it’s possible the launch could come later in the day. Sometimes there are last-minute delays.

But Apple’s track record shows that it prefers to roll out new iOS builds around 10 a.m. Pacific time. So if it waits until Thursday, December 11, the latest iPhone update should arrive then — unless Apple runs into a last-minute snag.

You can find the probable iOS 26.2 release times in various time zones below. Apple typically introduces new versions for all of its operating systems simultaneously.

That means macOS Tahoe 26.2, iPadOS 26.2, watchOS 26.2, tvOS 26.2 and visionOS 26.2 are also expected to launch soon.

Ed Hardy has been writing full-time about tech for 25 years, and using it for much longer than that.
