{"id":439169,"date":"2025-12-11T03:05:35","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T03:05:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/439169\/"},"modified":"2025-12-11T03:05:35","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T03:05:35","slug":"san-antonio-council-members-express-skepticism-caution-while-discussing-possible-elections-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/439169\/","title":{"rendered":"San Antonio council members express skepticism, caution while discussing possible elections move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 Most of the San Antonio City Council appears reluctant to move the city\u2019s elections from May to November in odd-numbered years before an end-of-year deadline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">If the idea is shot down during a vote on Dec. 18, a shift could still happen before the next city election in 2029.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A change in state law, which took effect in June, was aimed at allowing the City of Dallas to shift its election date. San Antonio and other cities could take advantage of it, too. However, they have to act by Dec. 31.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Supporters, led by Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones, point to potential cost savings and the possibility of higher voter turnout by moving to a more familiar month for elections. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Others on the council, though, worry about the effect on local school districts if they stay on the May election cycle, the quick turnaround and the fact that the change would not get voter approval first. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWhy would we not take the next year or two to talk about this with the residents of San Antonio?
