{"id":439264,"date":"2025-12-11T04:10:23","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T04:10:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/439264\/"},"modified":"2025-12-11T04:10:23","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T04:10:23","slug":"mean-girls-star-refuses-to-apologize-for-charlie-kirk-death-comments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/439264\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Mean Girls\u2019 Star Refuses to Apologize for Charlie Kirk Death Comments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Mean Girls and Mamma Mia star Amanda Seyfried has refused to back down on labeling right-wing activist Charlie Kirk \u201chateful\u201d shortly after his murder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Seyfried, 40, commented on an Instagram post after Kirk was <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/trump-ally-charlie-kirk-dead-at-31-after-campus-shooting\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/trump-ally-charlie-kirk-dead-at-31-after-campus-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/trump-ally-charlie-kirk-dead-at-31-after-campus-shooting\/\">shot dead<\/a> during a college speaking tour on September 10. The post highlighted Kirk\u2019s controversial statements about Black people, abortion and immigration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHe was hateful,\u201d Seyfried posted on her verified Instagram in reply to the post about Kirk\u2019s beliefs, according to <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.whowhatwear.com\/fashion\/cover-features\/amanda-seyfried&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whowhatwear.com\/fashion\/cover-features\/amanda-seyfried\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.whowhatwear.com\/fashion\/cover-features\/amanda-seyfried\">Who What Wear<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Amanda Seyfried attends the &quot;The Testament of Ann Lee&quot; New York special screening at Crosby Hotel on December 09, 2025 in New York City.\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/U7YL66KDYBBFJLTEX3YWEQA3WM.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"533\"\/>Amanda Seyfried attends the &#8220;The Testament of Ann Lee&#8221; New York special screening at Crosby Hotel on December 09, 2025 in New York City. Valerie Terranova\/Getty Images for Searchlight Pic <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Seyfried also shared a post that connected Kirk\u2019s comments supporting gun rights and his assassination, according to <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/12\/10\/celebrity-news\/amanda-seyfried-refuses-to-apologize-for-calling-charlie-kirk-hateful\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/12\/10\/celebrity-news\/amanda-seyfried-refuses-to-apologize-for-calling-charlie-kirk-hateful\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/12\/10\/celebrity-news\/amanda-seyfried-refuses-to-apologize-for-calling-charlie-kirk-hateful\/\">Page Six<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cYou can\u2019t invite violence to the dinner table and be shocked when it starts eating,\u201d the post Seyfried shared on Instagram read.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">That led to a backlash from social media users, with some threatening to boycott her movies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">While promoting her new movie, The Testament of Ann Lee, Seyfried told the website on Wednesday that she would not walk back the \u201chateful\u201d comment, despite backlash from Kirk supporters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m not f&#8212;ing apologizing for that,\u201d Seyfried said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI mean, for f&#8212;\u2019s sake, I commented on one thing. I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I\u2019m free to have an opinion, of course.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Seyfried also displayed gratitude for being able to give her \u201chateful\u201d comment more context on Instagram at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Seyfried had posted on Sept. 18 adding that while she did not want to \u201cadd fuel to a fire,\u201d wanted to clarify her comment that had been so \u201cirresponsibly\u201d taken out of context.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re forgetting the nuance of humanity,\u201d she explained. \u201cI can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk\u2019s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She continued, \u201cNo one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Justin Sullivan\/Getty Images <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Seyfried is not the only celebrity who was criticized for their reaction to the conservative influencer\u2019s murder; Broadway star Kristen Chenoweth was also part of a furore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In the comments on Kirk\u2019s final Instagram post, Chenoweth wrote \u201cI\u2019m. So. Upset. Didn\u2019t always agree but appreciated some perspectives.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWhat a heartbreak,\u201d she added. \u201cI know where he is now. Heaven. Wow&#8230; prayers for the Kirk family and prayers for our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Chenoweth\u2019s feed was <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/kristin-chenoweth-addresses-lgbtq-community-after-comments-grieving-charlie-kirks-death\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/kristin-chenoweth-addresses-lgbtq-community-after-comments-grieving-charlie-kirks-death\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/kristin-chenoweth-addresses-lgbtq-community-after-comments-grieving-charlie-kirks-death\/\">filled with comments<\/a> calling out her links to the LGBTQ community and if she agreed with Kirk\u2019s homophobic and anti-abortion comments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Shortly after her post in September, she addressed the negative reactions, telling <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/on-stage\/2025\/09\/18\/ny1-exclusive--kristin-chenoweth-sits-down-with-frank-dilella&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/on-stage\/2025\/09\/18\/ny1-exclusive--kristin-chenoweth-sits-down-with-frank-dilella\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/on-stage\/2025\/09\/18\/ny1-exclusive--kristin-chenoweth-sits-down-with-frank-dilella\">Spectrum News NY1<\/a>, \u201cI saw what happened online with my own eyes&#8230; Right then, I came to understand that my comment hurt some folks, and that hurt me so bad. I would never.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">After the blowback accusing her of being supportive of Kirk\u2019s polarising views, Chenoweth <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/kristin-chenoweth-speaks-out-on-backlash-to-charlie-kirk-posts\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/kristin-chenoweth-speaks-out-on-backlash-to-charlie-kirk-posts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/kristin-chenoweth-speaks-out-on-backlash-to-charlie-kirk-posts\/\">said<\/a> in November, \u201cIt was tough on me. I\u2019m not going to answer any questions about it because I dealt with it. It nearly broke me, and that\u2019s all I\u2019m going to say.
