The cofounders and coaches spearheading a new team called the Chicago Snowballs are hoping to bring a new brand of baseball to the region.<\/p>\n
The team, branded as \u201cpro baseball\u2019s first co-ed sportstainment experience\u201d according to its website, are aiming to blend baseball, performance and entertainment beginning next spring.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re inspired by the Savannah Bananas and the Harlem Globetrotters,\u201d co-founder Cherie Travis said. \u201cWe wanna have a fun program that brings people together.\u201d<\/p>\n
The team is set to make its debut on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at Kerry Wood Field in Chicago, and is currently seeking player-performers, with tryouts set for early next month.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor every girl, for every boy that\u2019s ever dreamed of playing baseball, we\u2019re here to make your dreams come true,\u201d executive assistant Kristen Adamiak.<\/p>\n
According to the team\u2019s website, pay will be equal for men and women that play for the squad, and players will earn salary and profit share. The team will play games in Chicago, but also plans to tour the Midwest, according to team officials.<\/p>\n
Nike Napoleon, the head coach of the Snowballs, said that the team will be focused on entertainment during two-hour games, but they\u2019ll also look to put a quality baseball product on the field.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe players are professionals, and this is a professional baseball game. It just has a little more entertainment value to it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Tryouts for the team will take place at the Rosemont Dome Jan. 5-9. According to the team\u2019s website, the club is looking for \u201cmulti-talented athletes with other skills,\u201d describing players as \u201cthe shortstop who plays the tuba, the pitcher who does gymnastics\u201d and other combinations of baseball skill and performance.<\/p>\n
