Talk show host Stephen Colbert<\/a> drew applause from his audience on Tuesday night as he argued his network should be able to support his show if they can fork out enough cash to pursue a hostile takeover of another media company.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There is currently a massive bidding war over which company will buy Warner Bros. Discovery, which recently put itself up for sale and holds the rights to movie franchises ranging from \u201cLord of the Rings\u201d to \u201cHarry Potter.\u201d <\/p>\n

While Netflix moved to acquire Warner Bros.<\/a> in a deal valued at $82.7 billion, Paramount has significantly upped the ante by launching a\u00a0hostile takeover bid. <\/p>\n

Paramount Skydance announced Monday it has launched an all-cash tender offer to acquire the outstanding shares of\u00a0Warner Bros. <\/p>\n

Discovery for\u00a0$30.00\u00a0per share in cash, with the company suggesting it\u2019s a \u201csuperior\u201d offer than the recently announced\u00a0$82.7 billion Netflix\u00a0deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust yesterday morning, my beloved parent company, Paramount, reportedly launched a hostile takeover bid for Warner Brothers valued at $108 billion. Wow. If my company\u2019s got that kind of green, I\u2019m sure they can afford to un-cancel one of their best shows,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Colbert was making a tongue-in-cheek reference to the\u00a0cancellation of<\/a> his own show,\u00a0which will be axed by CBS in spring 2026. <\/p>\n

\"StephenStephen Colbert received praise after he said his show could\u2019ve been saved since Paramount had more than enough cash to take over Warner Bros. Discovery.<\/p>\n

The show\u2019s cancellation follows the network and its parent company\u2019s settlement with Trump earlier after he sued both for \u201celection interference\u201d over a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d interview edit of his 2024 opponent, then-Vice President Kamala Harris.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is also amid a widespread decline in the popularity\u00a0of late-night talk shows\u00a0as a format amid a shifting media landscape and generational change.<\/p>\n

As the audience erupted in cheers, he eventually asked them to sit down, joking that the actual show he was talking about was the crime drama series \u201cthe Equalizer\u201d starring Queen Latifah, and not his own show.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cCBS, you head the people, bring back \u2018The Equalizer!\u2019 We need our queen to return. Why do you think America has become so UN-equalized?\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert has not been shy about\u00a0criticizing his parent company. <\/p>\n

But one aspect of the deal, Colbert joked sarcastically, is particularly foreboding.<\/p>\n

\u201cTurns out, Paramount got a little assist on the cash front.
