\n\tAmanda Seyfried<\/a> isn\u2019t sorry for speaking her truth. In an interview with Who What Wear<\/a>, the actress said she refuses to apologize for calling Charlie Kirk<\/a> \u201chateful\u201d after the Turning Point USA co-founder was shot and killed earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn September, Seyfried commented on an Instagram post about Kirk\u2019s death, writing, \u201cHe was hateful.\u201d There was an immediate backlash and she shared her own post<\/a> clarifying her comment the following day. She said she doesn\u2019t regret writing it. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m not fucking apologizing for that. I mean, for fuck\u2019s sake, I commented on\u00a0one\u00a0thing,\u201d she told Who What Wear. \u201cI said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I\u2019m free to have an opinion, of course. Thank God for Instagram. I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualized\u2014which is what people do, of course.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tKirk was fatally shot in the neck<\/a> on Sept. 10 while speaking at an event in Utah. The response to his death cause significant upheaval on both sides of the aisle. Seyfried quickly clarified her original comment, noting in an Instagram caption that she didn\u2019t \u201cwant to add fuel to a fire.\u201d \u201cI just want to be able to give clarity to something so irresponsibly (but understandably) taken out of context,\u201d she wrote. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re forgetting the nuance of humanity,\u201d her post read. \u201cI can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk\u2019s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable. No one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNumerous Hollywood figures reacted publicly to Kirk\u2019s death, including Jamie Lee Curtis<\/a>, who cried while discussing the controversial activist<\/a> on\u00a0Marc Maron\u2018s\u00a0WTF\u00a0podcast. \u201cI disagreed with him on almost every point I ever heard him say,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I believe he was a man of faith, and I hope in that moment when he died that he felt connected to his faith. Even though I find what his ideas were abhorrent to me, I still believe he\u2019s a father and a husband and a man of faith, and I hope whatever \u2018connection to God\u2019 means, that he felt it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJimmy Kimmel<\/a> Live was temporarily suspended<\/a> by ABC and its parent company Disney after host Jimmy Kimmel made remarks about Kirk on air. Donald Trump<\/a> and his administration, including Federal Communications Commission chairman Brendan Carr, put pressure on the network to pull the show. <\/p>\n

\n\tDuring Kimmel\u2019s monologue following Kirk\u2019s death, the comedian criticized right-wingers for trying to \u201cscore political points\u201d off his murder, after they spent the weekend attempting to blame the left broadly, and trans people more specifically, for the shooting, well before the public knew much \u2014 if anything \u2014 about the shooter\u2019s motives.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,\u201d Kimmel said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe host later apologized<\/a> after Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/a> was returned to air. \u201cIt was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man,\u201d he clarified. \u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything funny about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
