Recent plans laid out by Matt Zane<\/strong> (Society 1<\/strong>, etc.) to complete an unauthorized documentary on the late Static-X<\/strong> frontman Wayne Static<\/strong> and his deceased wife Tera Wray<\/strong> have come under fire from both families of the couple. Zane<\/strong> announced his plans to direct and produce that documentary last month. He claimed that filming started back before for the couple ultimately passed away.<\/p>\n

Wayne<\/strong> died on November 01st, 2014 at the age of 48 as the result of a fatal mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol<\/a>. Tera<\/strong> would later take her own life in January of 2016. Zane<\/strong> had worked with Wayne<\/strong> previously on video projects and met Wray<\/strong> through their time in the adult film industry.<\/p>\n

Last month Zane<\/strong> revealed he planned to launch a crowdfunding campaign<\/a> to get the project into full production this coming January, stating he intended to chart out the final seven years of Wayne<\/strong> and Tera<\/strong>\u2018s lives. He also noted that he and Wayne<\/strong> had previously collaborated together on an EP\u2019s worth of unreleased material, which Zane<\/strong> expected to now complete with the use of AI technology.<\/p>\n

A newly issued statement from the families of Static<\/strong> & Wray<\/strong> however strongly opposed Zane<\/strong>\u2018s plans, threatening potential legal action. That statement reads:<\/p>\n

We are sharing this with the world to ensure that our feelings are crystal clear on this matter.<\/p>\n

We are not interested in the further development of any unauthorized biography or documentary focused on our deceased son, daughter, and siblings, Wayne Wells<\/strong> (\u2018Wayne Static<\/strong>\u2018) and Tera Lents<\/strong> (\u2018Tera Wray<\/strong>\u2018). This includes but is not limited to: any behind-the-scenes footage from music videos, adult film sets, concerts, house parties, developmental projects, reality TV pilots, private photos, or any other portrayals of Wayne Wells Static<\/strong>, Tera Lents Wray Static<\/strong>, or either of their likenesses. Any attempt to exploit their unauthorized likeness will be met with the appropriate legal response.<\/p>\n

We strenuously object to any further exploration or exploitation of this dark and tragic chapter in their lives. Additionally, we feel that the music video for the Wayne Static<\/strong> song \u2018Assassins Of Youth<\/strong>\u2018, directed by Matt Zane<\/strong> and released in 2013, and the Static-X<\/strong> \u2018Stay Alive<\/strong>\u2018 music video released in 2023, thoroughly depict the dangerous lifestyle that Wayne<\/strong> and Tera<\/strong> were embracing prior to their subsequent deaths. Further, Static-X<\/strong> is nearing completion of the official Static-X<\/strong> documentary titled \u2018Evil Disco \u2013 The Rise, Fall, And Regeneration Of Static-X<\/strong>\u2018. The official documentary dives deep into the entire life\u2019s work of Wayne Static<\/strong> and Static-X<\/strong>. The film is expected to be around 80 minutes in length and devotes the appropriate amount of time to exploring the lifestyle changes and ultimate tragedies that followed.<\/p>\n

If Mr. Zane<\/strong> is in possession of any additional rare or unseen footage that could contribute to the celebration of Wayne<\/strong>\u2018s life and legacy, we kindly ask him to share the footage with our families so that we can review and consider it for potential inclusion in the official \u2018Evil Disco<\/strong>\u2018 documentary. Additionally, any unreleased music featuring the voice of Wayne Static<\/strong> or his musical compositions would require the approval of the estate before any publication or release.<\/p>\n

We further challenge Mr. Zane<\/strong> to share any musical works that he claims might contain the actual voice of Wayne Static<\/strong> so that we can determine their authenticity and quality for consideration. We are not interested in Wayne Static<\/strong>\u2018s voice appearing within any Al-generated music.<\/p>\n

In closing, we would like to thank the Static-X<\/strong> fans around the world for their continued love and support for Wayne and the band. We are so proud of the band and what they have accomplished together.<\/p>\n

Static-X<\/strong>\u2018s music is as popular as ever, and Wayne<\/strong>\u2018s energy and legacy have been celebrated and regenerated through the band\u2019s incredible return to the stage.<\/p>\n

We fully support the current team and lineup of Static-X<\/strong> and their continued respect and love for Wayne\u2019s memory and our family. We are delighted that the world is continuing to celebrate the powerful music that Wayne and the band created together and the incredible energy that he and the band have always carried onto the stage.<\/p>\n
