Born weeks apart from one another in 1958, <a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/tag\/prince\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prince<\/a>\u2018s birthdate landed on June 7, while <a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/tag\/kate-bush\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kate Bush<\/a> came into the world seven weeks later on July 30. Both also started their music careers around the same time, with Bush releasing her debut single \u201cWuthering Heights\u201d and first album The Kick Inside in 1978, a few months before Prince\u2019s debut\u00a0album For You.<\/p>\n<p>By the 1970s, Prince and Bush shared a mutual admiration for one another, but wouldn\u2019t meet until 1990 when Bush attended his concert at Wembley Stadium and requested to meet him backstage. At one time, during some email exchanges with Prince\u2019s then-engineer Michael Koppelman, Bush\u2019s engineer at the time, Del Palmer,\u00a0the former recalled Prince called her his \u201cfavorite woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s funny because Prince knew I was a huge [Kate Bush] fan,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/gaffa.org\/moments\/2_2j.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said Koppelman<\/a>. \u201cHe was, too, but not like me. The first time I asked him if he liked Kate Bush, he said, \u2018She\u2019s my favorite woman.\u2019 I also made him a tape of all the Kate Bush b-sides, which f\u2013king rule. When \u2018The Sensual World\u2019 came out, he had someone go get it, and we listened to it in the studio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" height=\"705\" width=\"1024\" viewbox=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/GettyImages-1320344533-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-9004111231683989\"\/> Kate Bush performing live, circa 1978. (Photo by TV Times via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cI think part of his motivation to work with Kate was the fact that I worshipped her, and he knew it would impress me that he could call her on the phone and work on her music and s\u2013t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By the time both connected in the early \u201990s, Bush was considering quitting music following the death of her friend and guitarist Alan Murphy from AIDS, while Prince was navigating another creative awakening following\u00a0The Black Album. <\/p>\n<p>What transpired after both finally met was two unexpected collaborations\u2014one on Bush\u2019s seventh album, The Red Shoes, in 1993, and a second, three years later, on Prince\u2019s triple album, Emancipation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/the-anti-war-kate-bush-song-army-dreamers-that-got-banned-during-the-gulf-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">[RELATED: The Anti-War Kate Bush Song Banned During the Gulf War]<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy Should I Love You\u201d (1993)<\/p>\n<p>Written by Kate Bush<\/p>\n<p>On opposite sides of a musical spectrum, when Bush asked Prince to contribute some vocals to her song \u201cWhy Should I Love You,\u201d on her 1993 album,\u00a0The Red Shoes, Prince took the song (already written and recorded by Bush at Abbey Road) and completely rewired it, layering bass, guitar, and keyboards onto the track. Prince also fulfilled Bush\u2019s initial request and shared vocals with her on the track. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy Computer\u201d (1996)<\/p>\n<p>Written by Prince<\/p>\n<p>In 1996, Bush returned the favor, singing on Prince\u2019s Emancipation track \u201cMy Computer,\u201d featured on the third side of the album.
