{"id":440317,"date":"2025-12-11T14:59:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T14:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/440317\/"},"modified":"2025-12-11T14:59:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T14:59:11","slug":"suspect-who-shot-at-bexar-county-deputy-constables-held-on-2-5m-bond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/440317\/","title":{"rendered":"Suspect who shot at Bexar County deputy constables held on $2.5M bond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN ANTONIO &#8211; The suspect who allegedly shot at Bexar County deputy constables is being held on a combined $2.5 million bond following the standoff Tuesday afternoon at an East Side apartment complex.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Gerber is being charged with attempt to commit capital murder of a peace officer ($1 million bond), and three counds of aggravated assault against a public servant ($500,000 each count). <\/p>\n<p>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/foxsanantonio.com\/newsletter-daily\/deputy-shot-in-east-side-standoff-shares-gratitude\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Constable shot in East Side standoff grateful to be alive<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The incident unfolded around 4 p.m. at the Artisan at Willow Springs apartments off Gembler Road and Willow Springs, where deputies from Precinct 4 were attempting to serve an eviction notice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;d been working on the door for some time with building maintenance, trying to get the door opened,&#8221; Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said. &#8220;Once they got the door open, the suspect reportedly opened fire. One of the deputy constables was hit, but he was wearing body armor and is expected to be okay.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The deputy constable injured in the shooting, Darrell Ward, was struck but protected by his body armor and is stayed on the scene after being checked out by medical personnel. <\/p>\n<p>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/news4sanantonio.com\/news\/local\/major-law-enforcement-situation-leads-to-road-closures-on-the-east-side\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Constable unharmed after being shot serving eviction notice; suspect in custody<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gerber barricaded himself inside the apartment for several hours before surrendering to a combined Bexar County and SAPD SWAT team. Tear gas was deployed during the standoff, and he exited the apartment safely and was taken into custody. Authorities confirmed he used a handgun during the incident and that no one else was injured.
