Will it keep them?\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2025\/12\/08\/san-diego-has-500-license-plate-readers-posted-around-town-will-it-keep-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dec. 8<\/a>): Technology is everywhere. The notion that we have any real privacy is a myth. We really do not. Now some people are concerned about license plate readers. Granted, those in this country illegally are rightfully concerned that use of this technology may inadvertently lead to their arrest and deportation. And there is no doubt that the Trump administration has overreached on that issue by targeting honest, hard-working immigrants who have been here for many years.<\/p>\n<p>However, the overall good of the readers is inarguable. They are a major game changer for law enforcement. And at only $2 million per year to operate, it sounds like one of the few things this city has gotten right with budgeting. I\u2019d bet anything that if you placed this issue on the ballot, voters would overwhelmingly approve their use.
