The state\u2019s long-awaited casino licensing process is entering a crucial phase. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"O3URUE3KARF5JJT72NXOWJTXYI\">Predictably, Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. <a href=\"https:\/\/pubfiles.nysenate.gov\/crm\/addabbo\/view\/fecde38083968e47\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/pubfiles.nysenate.gov\/crm\/addabbo\/view\/fecde38083968e47\">released a statement<\/a> about the future of NY online casinos as it relates to the New York down-state casino licensing process and after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2025\/S5935\/amendment\/A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2025\/S5935\/amendment\/A\">SB5935<\/a>, a bill that bans sweepstakes casinos, was signed into law by Gov. Kathy Hochul in early December.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZL56I6XYERBQ7KJ7362JKSP3XQ\">Senator Addabbo Jr. said the state is \u201cbetter positioned to hold serious discussions about regulating and potentially legalizing iGaming in the near future, possibly as part of the upcoming budget process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HLMGULVCI5EGZLEWIFFOBSARUQ\">Senator Addabbo Jr. will likely reintroduce NY online casinos legislation this winter. His effort last year did not gain traction: <a href=\"https:\/\/trackbill.com\/bill\/new-york-senate-bill-2614-relates-to-interactive-gaming\/2621301\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/trackbill.com\/bill\/new-york-senate-bill-2614-relates-to-interactive-gaming\/2621301\/\">S2614<\/a> never received a hearing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5C23AON7OZAGNLIS25ZU4TRHVM\">The potential for NY <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/casinos\/new\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/casinos\/new\/\">real money online casinos<\/a> in terms of revenue is enormous. When I bought this team, fans and the community kept saying we needed to do better,\u201d Cohen said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PS4T7VDRUZHELK3X6ZV2VYVY34\">\u201cMetropolitan Park delivers on the promise of a shared space that people will not only want to come to and enjoy, but can be truly proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"W5LBOBCY7ZHGPLQDLFTQKVKFYM\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/nycasinos.ny.gov\/system\/files\/documents\/2025\/12\/12.01.25.gflbselectiondocument.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gaming Facility Location Board<\/a> reports that these NYC casinos will bring new jobs to the area, while also generating billions of dollars in tax revenue. <\/p>\n<p>Other NYC casino locations<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CNYHURKUA5FZBD6OKJBZI5RAKY\">Hard Rock at Citi Field is just one of three proposed NYC casino locations. There is expected to be a second casino in Queens as well as one in the Bronx. Here\u2019s what we know about the other two downstate casino bids:<\/p>\n<p>Bally\u2019s Bronx<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"G6FBFK32KRGBRDTZ5VSAMZ4ODA\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/ballysbronx.com\/#about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bally\u2019s Bronx project<\/a> is expected to feature a resort that\u2019s located on approximately 16 acres within Bally\u2019s Golf Links at Ferry Point. There will be a Bally\u2019s Casino in addition to a 500-room hotel that offers a spa, fitness center and suites overlooking the Manhattan skyline and the East River.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"IR3V5CGF2JF45HENAJ57G7WCYI\">Bally\u2019s Bronx is anticipated to affect the NYC economy in the following ways: <\/p>\n<ul class=\"article__unordered-list\">\n<li id=\"4PXTZ5SI2ZAPVPDPCBMU2BEMGA\"><b>Total Upfront Investment:<\/b> $4 million<\/li>\n<li id=\"QTROOFZEMVG7PH65NYSCH22OHU\"><b>Total Enumerated Community Benefits:<\/b> $625 million<\/li>\n<li id=\"7XR5W3BO3FALVBK4TBDFXSAZLI\"><b>Union Construction Jobs:<\/b> 15,000<\/li>\n<li id=\"DDMAXIVQLND5VKNPKNNWB5A2NQ\"><b>Permanent Union Jobs: <\/b>4,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QZC7WVVIAJDK7KNPNJKO3TLXLI\">Here is a statement from chairman of Bally\u2019s Corporation, Soo Kim, said on the matter: <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"I4HRR2YWMJEVJH3QRD2Q5R6PWQ\">\u201cThe Bally\u2019s commitment to The Bronx remains unwavering. Bet with Bally\u2019s on the Bronx!\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Resorts World New York City<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PI2DBBZM2RDE3OWXXFE7LQHUKI\">The other NYC casino location will be positioned in the Bronx. <a href=\"https:\/\/rwnewyork.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Resorts World New York City<\/a> is expected to open its first phase as early as March 2026, which will begin with hundreds of table game options. By the end of construction, RWNYC will offer:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"article__unordered-list\">\n<li id=\"UXJLCU2MINDQBBLDZHQIEV6ZFM\">500,000-square-foot gaming floor with 6,000 slot machines and 800 live table games<\/li>\n<li id=\"TMHEF5TKE5HLBFXBQVXNFECJRQ\">2,000 hotel rooms<\/li>\n<li id=\"C6XO6PTDPRDF5DB4CPAO6GO6YI\">A 7,000-seat multipurpose entertainment venue<\/li>\n<li id=\"2BGQS6VXBREXHKCVYIKLJ2X3PY\">Over 7,000 parking spaces<\/li>\n<li id=\"DYKTQENSYJC4FIBWH6VYNN75PM\">More than 12 acres of new public green space<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MT4GVGTFIZCRBPKV3CMIL32DEM\">When it comes to economic impact, RWNYC plans to hire up to 2,000 employees, build up to 50,000 units of workforce housing across the five boroughs and generate billions in new revenue for mass transit and public education over the next four years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZFCDXV2K3BEVBJINC2ZQWYDHOY\">President of Genting Americas East, Robert DeSalvio, recently released a statement about the RWNYC proposal:<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5VQSO37M6ZG7PKRDGQLNYROM4Q\">\u201cResorts World New York City\u2019s journey to this historic moment represents more than 15 years of work to generate jobs, revenue, and opportunities for our neighbors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New York sweepstakes casino ban: What it means<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"L3ZMIYYEEJGEPCMJ2G4GLUCNOI\">Sweepstakes casinos in New York are taking their last breaths after Gov. Kathy Hochul signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2025\/S5935\/amendment\/A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate Bill 5935<\/a> into law in early December. This final decision comes after months of legal back-and-forths, which even included cease-and-desist orders from NY\u2019s attorney general.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"I4WMOHVFPJCVXDXSIZYNMHUAXQ\">Many sweepstakes casinos already ceased operations in the Empire State following legislation passed back in June 2025. The signing of Senate Bill 5935 officially puts a stop to the sweeps industry in New York. <\/p>\n<p>Will NY online casinos be legal next?<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QTQGLCNWOFCGPMDYFAOKCD65PE\">The legalization of real money online casinos in the state of New York has been a hot-button topic for many years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5U6URH54SBGLXCTVF7RGTENPQ4\">In 2025, New York senator Joe Addabbo proposed a bill to reintroduce NY online casino legislation, but a hearing never occurred. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"M6RRMQ25BFD7XBXMOLIMDICOQY\">In May 2024, about 44% of the 532 constituents in Addabbo\u2019s district supported online casino gaming.
