What if they used AI to create the book\u2019s artwork?\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_4-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> These are questions pondered in a June 30 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/AmItheAsshole\/comments\/1loswl1\/aita_for_not_congratulating_my_friend_on\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reddit post<\/a> while sharing their predicament \u2014 and seeking advice \u2014 on the platform\u2019s \u201cAm I the A&#8212;&#8212;\u201d forum.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_6-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> A friend of the user \u201cself-published a children\u2019s book on Amazon,\u201d they wrote, and \u201cmade a big announcement on social media about how excited she was to start this new chapter in her life as an author.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_8-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> The newly self-published author also texted the user about it, to which they responded, &#8220;When I can, I&#8217;ll totally buy a copy. What&#8217;s the story? It sounds funny.\u201d (The author \u201cmarketed it as a hilarious story to read at bedtime,\u201d the user later clarified, \u201cand the title has shock value.\u201d)\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_10-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cLater, my husband saw the cover and was curious if it was AI-generated,\u201d the user wrote. \u201cI asked my friend who her illustrator was, and she said she\u2019d used Canva AI. Personally, I didn\u2019t really care either way, so I just didn\u2019t reply to that message right away.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p> A stock image of two people arguing.<\/p>\n<p>Getty<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_13-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> After a few hours had passed, the friend \u201cfollowed up asking why I had asked.\u201d When the user missed that text \u2014 \u201cI wasn\u2019t on my phone, so I didn\u2019t see it right away\u201d \u2014 she sent another text, asking something along the lines of, \u201cAre you going to reply or not?\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_15-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cI told her I was just curious,\u201d the user wrote, noting that they \u201cdidn\u2019t want to mention that someone else [their husband] thought it looked like AI, since I felt that would come across as rude.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_19-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> The user summarized the author&#8217;s response: \u201cI already have one friend criticizing my book, and then there\u2019s you\u2014no congratulations, just asking about the artwork as if you\u2019re trying to find something negative. So why don\u2019t you be honest about why you\u2019re asking.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_21-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> According to the user, they replied: \u201cPlease calm down. I can\u2019t afford to buy your book right now. Also, there is no reason why you couldn&#8217;t say \u2018congratulations\u2019 without buying the book? And finally, literally no one appreciates being told to &#8220;calm down\u2019. Not a single person.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_38-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> The same person also asked the user if they \u201ceven like&#8221; their author friend.
