{"id":441242,"date":"2025-12-12T00:29:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T00:29:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/441242\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T00:29:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T00:29:12","slug":"waymo-problems-man-jumps-into-trunk-of-driverless-taxi-in-l-a-gets-stuck-and-is-removed-by-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/441242\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Waymo problems&#8217;: Man jumps into trunk of driverless taxi in L.A., gets stuck and is removed by police"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In the latest snafu involving driverless cars, a man who jumped into the open trunk of a Waymo taxi \u2014 only to be stuck there \u2014 became the subject of a viral social media <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@luckythurman\/video\/7581908616777682231\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The trapped passenger was discovered near MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, when a woman ordered a Waymo for her daughter near the corner of South Westlake Avenue and 6th Street on Monday afternoon only to discover the vehicle already had a passenger when it arrived \u2014 in the trunk.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThis s\u2014 won\u2019t let me out,\u201d the man said, when asked why he was back there.<\/p>\n<p>Waymo confirmed that a pedestrian entered the trunk after the previous rider left it open. A video of the incident shows the new customer, a woman and a girl with a backpack, receiving a ride credit from Waymo support after the man was removed from the trunk by police. <\/p>\n<p>The man, who said \u201cthe people\u201d put him in the trunk, appeared to be detained by police, according to the next <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@luckythurman\/video\/7582227929443126541\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video <\/a>posted by the same TikTok user. \u201cYou wanted more video. This was real life and not a skit,\u201d the user wrote in the caption. <\/p>\n<p>Other TikTok users commented that the man\u2019s actions were concerning and suggested he was hiding to attack a future rider. Waymo has come under fire recently for its safety protocols, after driverless taxis<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/story\/2025-12-02\/waymo-strikes-dog-in-san-francisco-weeks-after-kitkat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> hit two beloved pets<\/a>, killing a popular neighborhood cat in San Francisco. The dog that was hit was euthanized later, <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kron4.com\/news\/technology-ai\/dog-hit-by-waymo-in-sf-put-down-by-family-after-suffering-severe-pelvic-trauma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to KRON<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWaymo problems than it\u2019s worth,\u201d one TikTok user quipped in a comment.<\/p>\n<p>The company did not say whether the car\u2019s sensors could tell the man was in the trunk, or whether the man would have been able to get out of the trunk himself. Waymo said its Rider Support team helped the user during the incident and reached out afterward as well. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re committed to keeping our riders safe and earning the trust of the communities where we operate. This experience was unacceptable, and we are actively implementing changes to address this,\u201d Waymo said in a statement to The Times. <\/p>\n<p>Last week, video of a standoff between three Waymo cars in San Francisco also went viral.
