Catch our extended interview with Mark Curry on Sunday\u2019s <\/b>episode of Awareness at 11 a.m. on WIS.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Former Bad Boy Records artist Mark Curry is speaking out about his decade inside Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs\u2019 music empire, calling the experience \u201ca blessing that became a curse\u201d in an exclusive interview with WIS.<\/p>\n

Curry signed with Bad Boy Records in 1997, during the height of the label\u2019s success alongside artists like The Notorious B.I.G., Faith Evans, 112 and Mase. But he said what he witnessed behind the scenes was far from the glossy image seen on magazine covers and music videos.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I met Puff I was like, wow, this is gonna make my dream happen\u2026 And it wasn\u2019t easy,\u201d Curry said. \u201cI thought that meeting him was gonna be a blessing. It was actually a curse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Curry referred to Combs as \u201cPuff\u201d – a shortened version of the latter\u2019s former stage name, \u201cPuff Daddy.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also alleges Combs maintained a culture of intimidation, manipulation and control. It\u2019s behavior Curry details in his new book, \u201cDancing With the Devil.\u201d <\/p>\n

Curry was also featured in the recent hit Netflix documentary, \u201cSean Combs: The Reckoning.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce you control the streets\u2026 if you have a problem in the streets, I send somebody to go handle that,\u201d he said. \u201cHe thought he could do that, like power.\u201d<\/p>\n

Curry also described moments that left him questioning Combs\u2019 treatment of fans and the people around him. <\/p>\n

In a clip from the Netflix documentary, which includes never-before-seen footage, Combs is seen interacting with supporters in New York days before his arrest. After getting back in the car minutes later, Combs is seen and heard lamenting about the experience. <\/p>\n

\u201cI need some hand sanitizer,\u201d he said. \u201cI gotta take a bath\u2026 like the amount of people that I\u2019m coming in contact with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Curry said fans are now seeing \u201cthe man behind the scenes\u201d following Combs\u2019 July conviction on two federal counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.<\/a> Combs is currently serving a 50-month sentence in federal prison.<\/p>\n

Part of Curry\u2019s pain comes from ignoring the warnings of his father, who he said saw red flags early.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I lost my parents\u2026 they were both alive when I knew Puff,\u201d Curry shared. \u201cMy father used to tell me, don\u2019t trust him\u2026 And I lost my father and I believed in him [Combs] still.\u201d<\/p>\n

Curry believes Combs\u2019 conviction is only the beginning. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey need to have him sitting down,\u201d he said. \u201cThere are other things they\u2019re investigating that he\u2019s gonna answer to and he\u2019s not gonna be able to run because he\u2019s sitting down already.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the trauma, Curry said viewers from across the country have written to thank him for speaking up.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou helped me realize how to be strong\u2026 how to not give up and stay believing in your dream, no matter what you endure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Curry hopes his story encourages others, especially young artists, to recognize warning signs and protect themselves in an industry where power can be easily abused.<\/p>\n
