A Tarrant County jury will continue to deliberate on Friday in the sentencing for a Fort Worth man who shot a Tarrant County sheriff\u2019s deputy while he was working an off-duty security job.<\/p>\n
Leland Williams pleaded guilty earlier this week to Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant. <\/p>\n
Jurors spent hours in the deliberation room Thursday weighing in on whether Williams should spend life behind bars or a lesser sentence in connection with a shooting involving Tarrant County Sheriff\u2019s Deputy Brent Brown two years ago.<\/p>\n
Investigators say in November 2023, Williams pulled a gun on a teller at a Fort Worth Community Credit Union before firing four shots at Brown, hitting him twice then taking off. Brown was working an off-duty security job at the time and returned fire.<\/p>\n
Williams was later arrested at his mother\u2019s house in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n
Deputy Brown watched on during closing arguments in court. His attorneys are urging jurors to send the right message that Tarrant County does not tolerate violence against law enforcement.<\/p>\n
Williams\u2019 attorneys told the jurors he deserves to serve some time behind bars but should not face a life sentence based only on the \u201cworst day of his life.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Deputy Brown has been back on the job in the warrant division for a year.
