NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 \u201cThe Eras Tour was a lifetime within my life,\u201d Taylor Swift<\/a> told the room at a screening of the first two episodes of her new Disney+ docuseries, \u201cThe End of an Era.\u201d \u201cIt feels insane.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift spoke to the small New York crowd on Tuesday \u2014 a year and one day since she concluded<\/a> the history-making Eras Tour.<\/a> In the room were her parents Scott and Andrea Swift and brother Austin, a select few members of the press (including Hoda Kotb, Willie Geist and Gayle King), as well as her tour dancers, the choreographer Mandy Moore, docuseries directors Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce and a few others. The showing was briefly interrupted by security alarms as a small fire was extinguished elsewhere in the building, <\/p>\n

\u201cThe directors expanded upon the stories of not just me, but everyone who was part of this,\u201d Swift said, before taking her seat in the crowd.<\/p>\n

Here are key takeaways from the first two episodes of the six-episode docuseries, which launches Friday on Disney+. Two episodes will drop weekly, through Dec. 26.<\/p>\n

The origin of the Eras Tour<\/p>\n

The premiere episode opens in Vancouver, Canada, 15 minutes before the tour\u2019s final date. Swift, standing in a circle with her dancers, delivers an impassioned speech, reminding them the Eras Tour wasn\u2019t about pieces simply falling into place. \u201cYou put the pieces where they are,\u201d she tells them. It sets the tone for what follows: \u201cThe End of an Era\u201d is the only behind-the-scenes look at her tour and what drove it.<\/p>\n

Early on, Swift states that there were two distinct catalysts for the Eras Tour. One was having her back catalog sold out from underneath her,<\/a> inspiring the rerecording project<\/a> that showed her the value of \u201ccelebrating your past.\u201d The other was the pandemic, which heightened the desire for a return to live events.<\/p>\n

Tickets in demand<\/p>\n

The first episode also celebrates the incredible demand the tour created \u2014 mentioning Ticketmaster but not delving into the frustration it caused. The ticket seller sparked outrage<\/a> in November 2022 when its site crashed<\/a> during a presale event. The company said the site was overwhelmed by both fans and attacks from bots posing as consumers to scoop up tickets and sell them on secondary sites. The debacle prompted congressional hearings and bills in state legislatures<\/a> aimed at better protecting consumers.<\/p>\n

A failed terror plot\u2019s aftermath<\/p>\n

In August 2024, three dates were canceled in Vienna over an apparent plot to launch an attack<\/a> on the concerts.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like a force to be reckoned with in global culture,\u201d Swift says of the tour in the first episode. \u201cSo never did I think we\u2019d have a terrorist plot.\u201d<\/p>\n

The episode continues with Swift in London, preparing to perform for the first time<\/a> since the cancellations \u2014 less than week later. \u201cWe dodged a massacre situation,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing afraid something is going to happen\u201d to her audience, she says, \u201cthis is a new challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Southport stabbings<\/p>\n

About a week before the Vienna cancellations, a teenager killed three girls and wounded 10 people<\/a> in a knife attack at a Swift-themed dance and yoga class in the English seaside town of Southport. Swift at the time said she was \u201ccompletely in shock\u201d over the violence.<\/p>\n

As Swift contends with preparing herself for her first shows since Austria, she mentions the Southport attack and starts to cry when describing the \u201clittle kids\u201d attacked. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to meet some of the families tonight,\u201d she says, getting emotional before reminding herself to \u201clock it off,\u201d and get into pop performer mode. She compares it to being a pilot needing to adopt a \u201ccalm, cool, collected\u201d demeanor. Later, it is revealed that Swift privately met with families of the Southport victims. That is not on camera, but the aftermath is: Swift in tears, realizing the show must go on. <\/p>\n

Yes, Travis Kelce is here \u2026<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s fiance,<\/a> the Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce, first appears as a soothing voice on the phone, as Swift expresses her anxieties over the London shows and nailing a surprise performance with Ed Sheeran. His telepresence immediately elevates her mood.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks for making my day better,\u201d he tells her. \u201cSome people get a vitamin drip,\u201d she responds. \u201cI get this conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2026 As are other special guests<\/p>\n

Sheeran<\/a> and Swift hang backstage and work out their set in London. Florence Welch<\/a> is featured in the series, too. \u201cThe persona is huge, but the person is soft,\u201d Welch says of her similarities to Swift. Later, she describes being swept up in the magic of the Eras Tour. Swift is her friend, but when she joined the pop phenomenon on stage, she couldn\u2019t help but think: \u201cOh my god, it\u2019s (expletive) Taylor Swift.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Sheeran scene is particularly illuminating. She tells him she\u2019s off for two months following the London run, and she\u2019s planning on using that time to go somewhere no one can find her. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to be tracked like an animal,\u201d she tells him, admitting to feeling \u201chunted\u201d lately.<\/p>\n

Band members and dancers take center stage …<\/p>\n

Those in and around Swift\u2019s orbit tell their stories throughout the first two episodes. Fans will meet Amos Heller, her bassist since 2007. They will learn that Mandy Moore, the famous Hollywood choreographer,<\/a> joined Swift\u2019s tour after Emma Stone<\/a> suggested Swift work with her. You\u2019ll see another choreographer\/former dancer Amanda Balen rejoin the stage. \u201cI don\u2019t want dancers that blend in,\u201d Swift says of her crew. <\/p>\n

Fans will get more of Kameron Saunders, the beloved dancer, and his story \u2014 of being belittled in his field for his size, of his mother\u2019s endless support and how his brother, the professional football player Khalen Saunders,<\/a> paid for his flight to audition for the tour. (A fun aside \u2014 Saunders\u2019 brother was playing for the Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> at the time, the same team as Kelce.)<\/p>\n

As for Swift\u2019s own dancing, she says, \u201cIt has taken me a really long time to even be fine at choreography.\u201d She doesn\u2019t do \u201ceight counts\u201d \u2014 she learns movement based on the syllable of the lyric she is singing. <\/p>\n

\u2026 And so does Swift\u2019s team bonuses<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s decision to give her team bonuses, which People reported totaled $197 million, is highlighted in the series. In the second episode, Swift says she gave every member of the crew a handwritten letter and sealed it with a wax stamp. It\u2019s a compelling advertisement for Swift\u2019s generosity \u2014 particularly when the camera zooms in on a young production assistant, who looks stunned as he holds his note and says he\u2019s going to \u201cpass out.\u201d Individual bonus amounts are not revealed.<\/p>\n

\u2018The Tortured Poets Department\u2019 tour prep predated the album<\/p>\n

You read that correctly. To add a segment<\/a> of \u201cThe Tortured Poets Department\u201d<\/a> into the tour, Swift and team \u201cbuilt this top-secret rehearsal facility,\u201d she says. Dancers had to learn the choreography without music blasting over the loudspeakers, since the album had not yet been publicly released.
