{"id":442401,"date":"2025-12-12T12:56:49","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T12:56:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/442401\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T12:56:49","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T12:56:49","slug":"ice-disproportionately-targets-latinos-in-ny-more-than-any-other-ethnic-group-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/442401\/","title":{"rendered":"ICE disproportionately targets Latinos in NY more than any other ethnic group: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Latino immigrants have been disproportionately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/12\/05\/us\/cities-prepare-ice-immigration-raids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">targeted by ICE<\/a> more than any other ethnic group in New York state during the Trump administraton\u2019s crackdown, according to a new study.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a> agency has zeroed in on Latino migrants at a rate that far exceeds the pursuit of immigrants who come to America from other countries, according to the New York Immigration Coalition, an advocacy group that studied the federal agency\u2019s enforcement practices across New York and the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Immigrants from Central and South America are 25% of New York immigrant population but account for 74% of ICE arrests in the state, the study found.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis report lays bare the reality that ICE enforcement in New York is not just heavy-handed\u2014it is discriminatory,\u201d said Mario Bruzzone, vice president of policy at the <a href=\"https:\/\/nyic.us18.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=514cc0c969e98b57f073ce073&amp;id=8a9fbbe38f&amp;e=e84b648254\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advocacy grup.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLatino communities are being targeted in their neighborhoods and homes, often regardless of criminal history. City leaders and policymakers must not wait for this trend to worsen. They must act now to protect families and ensure that New York remains a place where immigrant communities are safe, not hunted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The same trend exists across the country, analysts said. Growth in arrests was actually slower in New York City than in some cities like Los Angeles, where enforcement can escalate quickly, according to the data.<\/p>\n<p>And, although much of the focus in New York City has been on <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/immigration-chicago-pritzker-courthouse-ice-arrests-643629859a5c1dc3e7b48552074f3bc4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">courthouse arrests,<\/a> community arrests \u2014 particularly of Latino men without criminal records \u2014 were the primary driver of increased ICE enforcement, the study found.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyloading\" alt=\"Federal law enforcement officers detain a man at 26 Federal Plaza Tuesday, June 10, 2025 in the Manhattan, New York.
