(NEW YORK, NY, 12\/11\/25<\/strong>) \u2014 he New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), a chapter of the nation\u2019s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned\u00a0graffiti discovered in a study room at New York University\u2019s Dibner Library in Brooklyn, which included anti-Black, anti-Indian, and antisemitic slurs and symbols.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to media reports, NYU Campus Safety and the New York City Police Department are investigating the incident as a hate crime after discovering profanities\u00a0targeting various races, the N-word slur, and a swastika defaced on the walls of a study room.\u00a0The graffiti was first publicized through student social media accounts and drew immediate concern from student organizations and campus communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a statement, Afaf Nasher, Esq., CAIR-NY Executive Director, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cHate-filled\u00a0vandalism of any marginalized community destroys\u00a0the sense of safety and belonging that every student deserves. Acts like this do not occur in a vacuum; they reflect a climate in which bigotry\u00a0is growing.\u00a0We stand in solidarity with the students and communities harmed by this incident and urge a full, transparent investigation to ensure accountability. Universities must remain places of learning, not fear.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

CAIR-NY urges students and community members to report any bias-motivated incidents to campus authorities, local law enforcement, and civil rights organizations.\u00a0<\/p>\n
