From <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-poll-approval-economy-immigration-inflation-crime-9e5bd096964990e040bc4bacd9fcac21\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the AP\u2019s report;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">the AP\u2019s report<\/a> on its national survey:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"mb-4 border-l-2 pl-5 italic text-tertiary\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">President Donald Trump\u2019s approval on the economy and immigration have fallen substantially since March, according to a new AP-NORC poll, the latest indication that two signature issues that got him elected barely a year ago could be turning into liabilities as his party begins to gear up for the 2026 midterms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Only 31% of U.S. adults now approve of how Trump is handling the economy, the poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds. That is down from 40% in March and marks the lowest economic approval he\u2019s registered in an AP-NORC poll in his first or second term.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">While the president routinely (and falsely) claims, as he <a href=\"https:\/\/rollcall.com\/factbase\/trump\/transcript\/donald-trump-remarks-artificial-intelligence-executive-order-december-11-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:did again on Thursday afternoon;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">did again on Thursday afternoon<\/a>, that the current U.S. economy is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/rachel-maddow-show\/maddowblog\/white-houses-celebration-weak-job-market-makes-no-sense-rcna245134\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the single greatest economy in the nation\u2019s history;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">the single greatest economy in the nation\u2019s history<\/a>, a whopping 67% of Americans \u2014 two-thirds of the country \u2014 said they disapprove of his handling of economic affairs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Shortly after the AP\u2019s data reached the public, Trump published <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/115702382320619583\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:a curious message;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">a curious message<\/a> on his social media platform, peddling a variety of familiar nonsense about Joe Biden, inflation, consumer prices and the effects of his trade tariffs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But then he turned to self-pity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWhen will I get credit for having created, with No Inflation, perhaps the Greatest Economy in the History of our Country?\u201d the president wrote. \u201cWhen will people understand what is happening? When will Polls reflect the Greatness of America at this point in time, and how bad it was just one year ago?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Trump didn\u2019t literally ask, \u201cWhy aren\u2019t people trusting my lies over their own wallets and life experiences?\u201d but that seemed to be the subtext.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If he\u2019s genuinely confused, I think I can help.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Americans are confronting rising <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/rachel-maddow-show\/maddowblog\/trump-rolls-solution-affordability-crisis-pretend-doesnt-exist-rcna244608\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:consumer costs;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">consumer costs<\/a>, rising <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/rachel-maddow-show\/maddowblog\/as-trump-stumbles-on-energy-costs-more-americans-are-facing-power-shutoffs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:energy costs;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">energy costs<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/rachel-maddow-show\/maddowblog\/u-s-manufacturing-sector-keeps-contracting-despite-trumps-false-claims\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:contracting manufacturing sector;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">contracting manufacturing sector<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/rachel-maddow-show\/maddowblog\/delayed-jobs-data-offers-mixed-bag-us-unemployment-rate-inches-higher-rcna244933\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the worst job growth since the Great Recession;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">the worst job growth since the Great Recession<\/a>. That\u2019s not a matter of opinion; it\u2019s just what\u2019s happening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If Trump wants to deflect blame, he can try. If he wants to appeal to the American public for patience, he\u2019s welcome to do so.
