{"id":443298,"date":"2025-12-12T23:35:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T23:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/443298\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T23:35:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T23:35:13","slug":"tourist-stabbed-by-nyc-homeless-woman-at-macys-herald-square-was-changing-baby-sources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/443298\/","title":{"rendered":"Tourist stabbed by NYC homeless woman at Macy\u2019s Herald Square was changing baby: sources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A tourist from California was changing her baby in a bathroom at Macy\u2019s Herald Square when\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/11\/us-news\/tourist-stabbed-inside-nyc-macys-by-homeless-brute-during-busy-holiday-season-cops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">she was stabbed by a crazed homeless<\/a>\u00a0woman during the height of the holiday season, sources told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>The 38-year-old mom was in the iconic Midtown store\u2019s seventh-floor bathroom with her 10-month-old daughter when she was repeatedly knifed Thursday afternoon in an vicious attack that left shoppers on edge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The alleged assailant \u2013 Kerri Aherne, 43 \u2013 used a kitchen-type knife as she hacked the tourist\u2019s back and right arm, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Kerri Aherne was arrested and charged with attempted murder for the alleged attack at Macy\u2019s during the busy holiday season.  Obtained by NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Despite being riddled with knife wounds over her back and arm, the mother miraculously was released from the hospital Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is better,\u201d her husband told The Post, declining to comment further.<\/p>\n<p>Aherne was arrested on attempted murder and acting in a manner injurious to a child charges, but had yet to appear in court as of Friday evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The alleged knife-wielding maniac is homeless and has no history of arrests in the Big Apple, police said.<\/p>\n<p>But court records from Aherne\u2019s home state of Massachusetts show she has long struggled with mental illness.<\/p>\n<p>The Tewksbury native abruptly stopped posting on her Facebook account \u2013 which features anti-Trump comments, movie clips and incoherent rants \u2013 in 2018.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A 38-year-old mom visiting from California was repeatedly stabbed by a homeless woman inside a bathroom at Macy\u2019s Herald Square while changing her baby, sources say. Desheania Andrews for Ny Post<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing a little insane,\u201d one of her last posts prophetically states, along with a still from a Michael Jackson video.<\/p>\n<p>Aherne was deemed an incapacitated person in 2019, with her mother and sister appointed as her guardians, the records show.<\/p>\n<p>She was placed on a court-ordered treatment plan to keep her taking Prolixin, an antipsychotic medication used to treat schizophrenia, according to the records.<\/p>\n<p>Her mother and sister didn\u2019t return requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>How and when Aherne came to New York City is unclear, but she apparently crossed paths with the tourist inside the flagship Macy\u2019s around 3:10 p.m., as it was packed with holiday shoppers.<\/p>\n<p>The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. James Keivom<\/p>\n<p>The victim \u2013 who works as a civilian for the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department, where her husband is a deputy \u2013 had been shopping with her family when she went into the bathroom to change her baby, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Aherne allegedly attacked the mother in the bathroom, stabbing her back, shoulder and arm, police and sources said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The mom was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, while Aherne was taken into custody.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The seventh-floor bathroom showed no sign of violence the day after the attack \u2013 and many shoppers were stunned to find out what happened.<\/p>\n<p>Some questioned why Macy\u2019s hadn\u2019t posted security guards, especially because the Toys \u201cR\u201d Us is on the seventh floor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis happened yesterday? We were in Macy\u2019s yesterday, on the seventh floor,\u201d said Elizabeth, 40, who visited from South Carolina for her son\u2019s 10th birthday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s such a tourist location. I know it\u2019s a store but it\u2019s become quite a staple of people coming to celebrate Christmas in New York\u2026 I would expect that on the street not necessarily inside a department store.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A similar random assault did unfold outside Macy\u2019s on Nov. 19, when a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/21\/us-news\/stranger-randomly-bashes-cancer-survivor-71-in-head-outside-macys-herald-square-new-york-is-not-safe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">woman pummeled a cancer survivor\u00a0<\/a>over the head.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Records from her home state of Massachusetts show Aherne was deemed an incapacitated person in 2019. AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>That attacker remains on the loose, but police believe the incident is unrelated to the bathroom stabbing, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Felony and misdemeanor assaults in the Midtown South Precinct, which covers Macy\u2019s, have both increased by roughly 2% and 9%, respectively, this year compared to 2024, NYPD crime data shows.<\/p>\n<p>Shoppers at Macy\u2019s on Friday, a day after the bathroom stabbing, felt the iconic store could use more security.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019d think they have any security by the bathroom,\u201d said Laura P., 43, who was with her two girls. \u201cAt least at the entrance to see who\u2019s coming in and out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing to the bathroom is not supposed to be a scary place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maureen Thomas, who has four kids and works near Midtown, acknowledged it\u2019d be difficult to keep ruffians out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s crazy though.
