{"id":443300,"date":"2025-12-12T23:36:16","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T23:36:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/443300\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T23:36:16","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T23:36:16","slug":"steep-fifa-world-cup-2026-ticket-prices-could-impact-new-york-new-jersey-tourism-boost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/443300\/","title":{"rendered":"Steep FIFA World Cup 2026 ticket prices could impact New York, New Jersey tourism boost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United States, Mexico and Canada <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/fifa-chooses-new-yorknew-jersey-to-host-2026-world-cup-matches\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">are set to host the 2026 FIFA Men&#8217;s World Cup next summer<\/a>, with eight games, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/2026-fifa-world-cup-final-to-be-played-at-metlife-stadium\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">including the Final<\/a>, taking place <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/fifa-world-cup-2026-schedule-metlife-stadium-matches\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/fifa-2026-world-cup-tickets-presale-drawing-metlife-stadium\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">ticket prices<\/a> have become a source of international outrage in recent days, and some soccer fans say the cost could lead to empty seats.<\/p>\n<p>World Cup Final ticket at MetLife Stadium could cost thousands<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, FIFA allocated tickets for participating countries to, ideally, sell to their most loyal fans at affordable prices, as low as $21 per ticket.<\/p>\n<p>But groups like Football Supporters Europe allege that the opposite has happened, saying that if fans follow their team from the first match to the Final, &#8220;It would cost them a minimum of $6,900 USD.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>FIFA had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/fifa-2026-world-cup-tickets-metlife-stadium\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">two direct ticket sales phases<\/a>, both before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/2026-fifa-mens-world-cup-schedule-released-full-fixtures\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">last week&#8217;s draw<\/a>, meaning fans didn&#8217;t know who would play in the match they bought tickets for. Unlike in years past, there&#8217;s no flat fee for the group stage, either. Pricing is based on demand, and demand is expected to be high.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/fifa-world-cup-2026-how-to-get-tickets-and-other-frequently-asked-questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">A ticket to the Final at MetLife Stadium on July 19<\/a> could cost around $4,000.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA is now also involved in re-sale of tickets, charging secondary sellers and buyers 15% each. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the U.S. Soccer Federation told CBS News New York, &#8220;FIFA handles World Cup ticket pricing. We have no control over that process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>CBS News New York reached out to FIFA for comment on pricing, and were referred only to a press release on the number of tickets sold.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani vows to speak up to FIFA about prices<\/p>\n<p>The cost risks pricing out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/fifa-world-cup-final-metlife-stadium-financial-boon-new-york-new-jersey\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">the tourists that New York and New Jersey have been expecting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani spoke to CBS News New York political reporter Marcia Kramer about the prices for Sunday&#8217;s edition of &#8220;The Point.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is going to be me using my platform to speak up to FIFA at every opportunity,&#8221; Mamdani said.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor-elect also reiterated his plan to appoint a so-called World Cup czar.<\/p>\n<p>Soccer fans slam &#8220;ridiculous&#8221; prices<\/p>\n<p>Soccer fans at Smithfield Hall in Chelsea, one of the most popular places to watch a soccer game in Manhattan, say the sports bar is an option they may now be forced to consider next year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The entry level tickets for the opening games were supposed to be $21.
