Peter Greene, an actor noted for playing the character Zed in the classic film \u201cPulp Fiction,\u201d<\/a> was found dead inside his Lower East Side apartment on Friday, a police source and a neighbor told the Daily News.<\/p>\n

Greene\u2019s longtime manager, Gregg Edward, said the actor\u2019s family had been notified of his death.<\/p>\n

The neighbor, who asked that his name be withheld, said he found Greene, 60,<\/a> in his ground-floor apartment on Clinton St. near Stanton St. after neighbors reported hearing Christmas music<\/a> playing inside for several days.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a unique individual,\u201d said Edward, who had repped Greene for more than a decade. \u201cOne of the most brilliant character actors on the planet. Had a really good heart. Cared about people.<\/p>\n

\u201cTruly one of the great actors of our generation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The NYPD said a 60-year-old man was found dead<\/a> at that location at 3:25 p.m. Friday, but did not immediately release his name.<\/p>\n

There was no immediate indication as to the cause of death or whether foul play was suspected. Greene has a documented history of drug use, <\/a>telling Premier magazine in an interview about his struggles with addiction in the 1990s.<\/a><\/p>\n

Residents began hearing Christmas music blasting from \u201cThe Mask\u201d actor\u2019s<\/a> apartment around 3 a.m. Wednesday, but it wasn\u2019t until Friday that building management sent over a locksmith<\/a> to gain access to Greene\u2019s apartment, the neighbor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeter was lying on the floor, facedown, facial injury, blood everywhere\u2026,\u201d the neighbor said.<\/p>\n

On the door to Greene\u2019s unit, a handwritten note was posted, which included the line \u201cI\u2019m still a Westie,\u201d in an apparent reference to the Irish-American gang that operated out of Hell\u2019s Kitchen in the \u201970s and \u201980s.<\/p>\n

Edward said that the \u201cUsual Suspects\u201d actor had been chosen for a role in a film starring Mickey Rourke set to film next year called \u201cMascots,\u201d and was in the running for at least two other projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had a reputation as tough to work with\u2026 He was a perfectionist. He wanted it right,\u201d said Edward. \u201cHe was a big believer in improvising stuff too. Some people were fine with it, some people were not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Greene, who spoke to his manager as recently as Wednesday, had surgery scheduled to remove a benign tumor near his lungs in the coming days, Edward said. The actor was otherwise healthy and fit, according to his manager.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a shock,\u201d said Edward. \u201cHe wasn\u2019t that old. In pretty good shape for his age, rode his bike everywhere around New York. He\u2019d had some health issues throughout the last couple years, had always fought through and was very strong.\u201d<\/p>\n

The city\u2019s medical examiner will determine Greene\u2019s cause of death.<\/p>\n

\u201cBottom line, he was really a good-hearted person and a brilliant, brilliant actor,\u201d said Edward. \u201cI\u2019ve been trying to get him to write his autobiography.
