She notes, \u201cThey\u2019d joke about how boring he was and how he told the same WW2 stories over and over,\u201d making it clear that their connection with their grandfather was much more distant.<\/p>\n<p>When her grandfather\u2019s will was read, the family was shocked to discover that he left her almost all of his savings, a sum she describes as \u201cnot millions, but enough to matter (high five figures).\u201d To everyone else, he left smaller, symbolic items \u2014 old watches, photos and other keepsakes.<\/p>\n<p>The reason for this decision becomes clear in a letter her grandfather left behind.
