{"id":445022,"date":"2025-12-13T19:46:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-13T19:46:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/445022\/"},"modified":"2025-12-13T19:46:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-13T19:46:13","slug":"pope-at-mass-of-our-lady-of-guadalupe-mary-brings-joy-where-human-joy-is-lacking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/445022\/","title":{"rendered":"Pope at Mass of Our Lady of Guadalupe: Mary brings joy where human joy is lacking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pope Leo XIV celebrates Mass in St Peter\u2019s Basilica for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, who awakens \u201cin the inhabitants of America the joy of knowing they are loved by God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>By Christopher Wells<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Christian tradition recognizes the Blessed Virgin Mary as \u201cthe mother of love,\u201d Pope Leo said on Friday, in his homily for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the Gospel,\u201d he continued, \u201cwe hear how Mary lives the dynamic of one who allows the world to enter her life and transform it.\u201d Filled with joy at the Annunciation, Mary throughout her life \u201cbrings joy to places where human joy is insufficient.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This, the Pope said, is what happens in Guadalupe, where Mary \u201cawakens in the inhabitants of America the joy of knowing themselves loved by God.\u201d Noting that the Virgin spoke to St Juan Diego in his mother tongue, Pope Leo said that \u201cin the midst of ongoing conflicts, injustices, and sufferings that seek relief, Our Lady of Guadalupe proclaims the core of her message: \u2018Am I not here, I who am your mother?\u2019\u201d Mary, he continued, \u201cis the voice that makes the promise of divine faithfulness resound, the sustaining presence when life becomes unbearable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As our Mother, Mary tells us to \u201cdo whatever [Jesus] tells us,\u201d and we, in return, respond, \u201cYes, Mother, we want to be your true children. Tell us how to advance in faith when our strength wanes, and shadows grow.
