{"id":445198,"date":"2025-12-13T22:19:21","date_gmt":"2025-12-13T22:19:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/445198\/"},"modified":"2025-12-13T22:19:21","modified_gmt":"2025-12-13T22:19:21","slug":"expected-snowfall-totals-as-nyc-issues-weather-alert-for-winter-storm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/445198\/","title":{"rendered":"Expected snowfall totals as NYC issues weather alert for winter storm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">NEW YORK (PIX11) \u2014 The five boroughs were placed under a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/winter-weather-advisory-much-snow-194307092.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:weather alert;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weather alert<\/a> for the weekend by the Office of Emergency Management on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It comes as the National Weather Service warns of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/hazardous-weather-outlook-issued-possible-125620317.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:hazardous weather;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hazardous weather<\/a> from a fast-moving snowstorm expected to hit the city beginning Saturday around 10 p.m. and lasting until early Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/news\/local-news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:More Local News;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">New York City is projected to see anywhere from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/tracking-snow-ny-nj-weekend-132950264.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:2 to 3.5 inches;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2 to 3.5 inches<\/a> of snow, with the heaviest accumulation in areas like Staten Island, southern Brooklyn, and southeastern Queens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWhile we are not expecting a major storm, we\u2019re expecting snow will stick to roads and sidewalks,\u201d said NYCEM Commissioner Zach Iscol. \u201cThat first accumulating snowfall can catch people off guard and quickly create slippery conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Department of Sanitation has already begun pre-treating roads with brine and has more than 700 salt spreaders ready to deploy when the storm begins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cAll New York City agencies are prepared for this system, and we continue to monitor conditions closely,\u201d said New York City Mayor Eric Adams. \u201cNew Yorkers should all prepare too \u2014 avoid driving and give yourself extra travel time with public transit if you do need to travel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">MTA workers were deployed to salt and clear surfaces throughout the system in anticipation of the storm. The transit agency also assured that they\u2019re prepared to send out debris and deicer trains to ensure service continues with few weather-related interruptions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Bus service will be adjusted based on road conditions around the city, while subway trains, the Long Island Rail Road and MetroNorth are expected to run according to schedule.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe urge everyone to use caution when traveling, check on neighbors who may need assistance, and stay informed by signing up for Notify NYC,\u201d said Iscol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Dominique Jack is a digital content producer from Brooklyn with more than five years of experience covering news.
